We arrived by train from Paris on the same day as the Tour de France. Thus, it was very late at night when we arrived, but we were taken up to the 4th floor and given a large room with a king-sized bed. This room was probably an attic before the hotel was remodeled. Our room was very spacious, with plenty of room for our large luggage and two chairs for sitting and drinking wine in the evening. The bathroom facilities were divided into two separate rooms that were both very modern. The hotel was just a few minutes walk away from the river, along with many pastel-colored half-timbered houses, and many of the beautiful old town village shops. Nearby restaurants served incredible meals with sumptuous meats, fish, vegetables, and Alsace wines. Colmar had more delicious food for us to sample than anywhere else we traveled in Europe last summer. The lack of English-speaking staff was just a bit problematic for us because we wanted to do some cold-water laundry on our 2nd day in Colmar and no one at the hotel seemed to understand what we were asking for. Thank goodness for the translation application in my iphone! We were able to pack our dirty laundry in a small wheeled suitcase and walk to the other side of town and then walked down the stairs under the railroad tracks and up the stairs on the other side to find a local laundromat (laveria). There was a nice French woman there who showed us where to get change and how to use the machines. True, there was no English-language channel on the TV, but we didn't really care. Walking on quaint cobblestone streets all day long tired us out enough that sleep came very quickly for us every night. Yes, I would recommend this hotel to those who know how to use an iphone with a language translation app.
