“Fun place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2008

The Walkabout hotel is below the Walkabout bar just off Deansgate in Manchester. It's in ideal location being underneath the Ozzie themed bar and 100m for two express supermarkets. It is within the city centre so transport to all the major attractions is no problem as you can walk or hop on the tram.

The hotel itself is clean and well kept, you can choose from a varitey rooms & prices including twin, family & domatory rooms. I've only stayed in double room but it was great with an ensuite & TV. The views are by no means breathtaking or inspiring but for the price and the location this is easily forgiven. There is no internet access in the hotel it's self but chinatown is a short walk away where you will find plenty of cafe's that provide internet for roughly £2 per hour - you can also grab some food while your there.

Overall a great place to stay for those on a low budget that still want the comforts of a hotel.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2008

I really enjoyed my stay at the Walk About. The staff was great and treated me very well. The pub on the ground floor is fantastic, several big screens to watch football. And 50 cent coffee.

I wasn't expecting anything too over the top or too dodgy but i can say that i will never ever stay at this hotel again. The reception is in the basement which at nite as we found felt was very intimidating and not very secure as the main door was open instead of being locked, once through it we couldn't get it to lock and a member of staff had to do it for us. My friend and i didn't realise how far up our room was and by the time we reached our floor we felt the need for oxygen (i'm not the fittest person in the world but i can usually climb stairs!) We had difficulty opening our room door and when we did get in it was cold and less than gr8. It took the both of us to shut a single window which had been left open because it was broken and once it was shut still had a draft coming through it. There was only blinds at the window, the beds were very basic, the shower had a mind of it's own mostly cold and short bursts of impalling you against the wall. The electric heater in the room was dinted and didn't give off enough heat, the tv only showed the basic news channels and most were foreign. Tea and coffee was provided but the kettle looked grotty and the water inside like it had been there for quiet a while, so we ended up putting bottled water in it. A DUMP

“Very basic!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2007

I stayed here with a group of mates on a stag do..

This place is above the main Walkabout Bar. The room I stayed in was a family room and was mega basic! 3 bunk beds and en suite. The rooms were clean..basic and the bathroom had a bath/shower. Sadly for us it only dribbled out cold water which werent good when ya getting ready to hit the town! Basically you get what you pay for and the only plus side is if you cant get in any of the bars ( unlikely but in a big group of lads you cant tell) you are a resident so allowed in the Walkabout.....For the price it cost you may as well book a travelodge!

To sum it up...a place to get ya head down near to the nightlife and shops.

“Just what you need”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2007

I have stayed at the Walkabout hotel a few times now as it is good value for your money and the staff are always friendly.

I have read some of the other reviews out there for the place and must admit it did sort of hit a down period around New Year 2006, but my last stay in May 2007 proved to bring a pleasent surprise with it. The room was clean and tidy. The mattresses seemed to have been changed along with the pillows and duvet.

The noise level is still the same on Friday and Saturday nigths but if you are in for a great night out why not join the party. If you do your room becomes even more convenient as you only need to stumble down the stairs to the reception and in to the lift rather than fight the thousands of other party goers for a taxi.
