“Excellent for a cheap night in Manchester”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Stayed in a double room. Basic but clean. It was £40 for the room so £20 each is amazing value for a nights stay in Manchester.
Been going out in Manchester for years so picked this Hostel for its great location in the Centre.

Lift didnt work but only had a light bag to carry up to the 6th floor.

Was also given a 20% off card for use in the bar on food and drink.

Will be using this place again.

Room Tip: The higher the better for avoiding the street noise

“Best value in this location”

We decided to stay in the walkabout for a birthday weekend. We booked a double and a triple room. It is in a perfect central location and is the cheapest place to stay in town. Our rooms were made up in the day which we didn't expect and the rooms were clean enough. I have to admit we were pretty drunk and were coming in and out in the night and it seems a lot of other people were too, so if you are wanting an early night be sure to bring your earplugs as the doors are self closing and bang. The only complaint is that the triple room is advertised as a 3 bed, however it contains a single and a double bed.

As I mentioned the location is perfect. It is in the centre of town above the walkabout bar and with many other bars, restaurants and shops in walking distance and has a tesco express right on the corner. Our double was £35 per night and the triple was £45 per night. You really can't beat that. We were a little worried about what we got ourselves into with such a cheap place but were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The rooms each had the bed/s, a desk with tea making facilities, hanging space for clothes, bedside tables, a very good working heater and ensuite bathroom with mirror included a bath. They were also painted a nice shade of cheery yellow.

“Fun place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2008

The Walkabout hotel is below the Walkabout bar just off Deansgate in Manchester. It's in ideal location being underneath the Ozzie themed bar and 100m for two express supermarkets. It is within the city centre so transport to all the major attractions is no problem as you can walk or hop on the tram.

The hotel itself is clean and well kept, you can choose from a varitey rooms & prices including twin, family & domatory rooms. I've only stayed in double room but it was great with an ensuite & TV. The views are by no means breathtaking or inspiring but for the price and the location this is easily forgiven. There is no internet access in the hotel it's self but chinatown is a short walk away where you will find plenty of cafe's that provide internet for roughly £2 per hour - you can also grab some food while your there.

Overall a great place to stay for those on a low budget that still want the comforts of a hotel.

“Great Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2008

I really enjoyed my stay at the Walk About. The staff was great and treated me very well. The pub on the ground floor is fantastic, several big screens to watch football. And 50 cent coffee.

I wasn't expecting anything too over the top or too dodgy but i can say that i will never ever stay at this hotel again. The reception is in the basement which at nite as we found felt was very intimidating and not very secure as the main door was open instead of being locked, once through it we couldn't get it to lock and a member of staff had to do it for us. My friend and i didn't realise how far up our room was and by the time we reached our floor we felt the need for oxygen (i'm not the fittest person in the world but i can usually climb stairs!) We had difficulty opening our room door and when we did get in it was cold and less than gr8. It took the both of us to shut a single window which had been left open because it was broken and once it was shut still had a draft coming through it. There was only blinds at the window, the beds were very basic, the shower had a mind of it's own mostly cold and short bursts of impalling you against the wall. The electric heater in the room was dinted and didn't give off enough heat, the tv only showed the basic news channels and most were foreign. Tea and coffee was provided but the kettle looked grotty and the water inside like it had been there for quiet a while, so we ended up putting bottled water in it. A DUMP
