“Best of Manchester City Centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I am staying in this place for like 2 weeks, on and off, but cant imagine better place to stay.
Clean, cozy, and cheap.
Perfect location just couple of minutes from Piccadily Gdns, and 10 minutes from shoping area.
Do not take on board thing like prison from 1980's coz it is not true. You are get what you paid for, so...

Room Tip: Highest floors a more warm.

“Two days in nice and clean hostel!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I got a dorm for 22 Pounds for two nights which is not dirt cheap but not too expensive as well.

According to me its on 15 Hilton street, and really walking distance to Piccadily and Shudehill Interchange (Mega Bus stand - important to me). It has got bars nearby as well and it looked quite safe area to live in.

The rooms were very clean and with basic requirements taken care of in sense of hot water, 24 hour functioning kitchen, and wi-fi that actually works. Rooms are spacious enough and it was good fun.

Suggestions: Wireless doesn't work in the rooms so if it could be extended to rooms it will be really great as well. But on the other hand its really nice way to get people together as everyone who wants to use the internet has to be in common area and provides a good opportunity for interaction.

Room Tip: Choose Mixed Dorm :)

“Like prison, but without being asked to pick up the soap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

With all but one thing considered, this was the best place I've ever stayed, and can't recommend it enough. However, the one thing is that it's awful. Awful. I stayed here on a stag do, so not my choice of accommodation. Some people actually choose to stay here. The rooms are like prison cells from the 1980's. If you are a student, back packing across Europe, then this may be ideal for you in terms of cheapness and for making new pretend friends. If you are a normal person, stay anywhere but here.

“I don't think I'll be in another hostel for a loonnggg time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

Being my first time in a hostel, I wasn't expecting much. We stayed in the Newton Street hostel and since we were coming in at 2am and getting up at 10am, it was basically a place for us to sleep. Upon arrival, you are given a receipt-sized piece of paper saying your name and your room number. This gives you access into the hostel past the reception and you also get the keycard to your room for a charge of £1 per key. The lift is only to be operated by staff, so we had to lug our bags up three flights of stairs. There is a luggage room downstairs beside the reception if you want somewhere secure to keep your bags.

The room had 4 sets of bunk beds. You are each given a bed number, though I don't think they check so you can sleep wherever. The beds were ok, just a little creaky and the ceiling was not so pretty to look at since it was just pipes.

The bathrooms for men are on the odd-numbered floors, with the women's bathrooms on the even-numbered ones. The toilets and the showers are in separate rooms, presumably for extra space. I must admit, the showers were hands-down the worst I'd ever had in my life. They were quite like those showers in the swimming pool, as you had to press a button to make them work. The one I used was mildewed and the only clean one was out of use!

The hostel is in a good position, close to the town centre, and we were told there is free tea and toast 24 hours a day, although I wasn't brave enough to sample any. All in all, I think this was a good place to stay since we weren't coming back until 2am and just using it to sleep in, although I did not appreciate the 2 strangers in our room!

“Very noisy room and didn't like the showers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

I stayed in a double room in this hostel and I was a bit disappointed. While the location was great, the staff was helpful and there was a nice TV room, our room (room 506) had some sort of boiler or generator in the corner. It was extremely noisy - it sounded like there was a washing machine running on and off in our room all night - and it meant that I couldn't sleep. I feel that they should be warning people about this when they book room 506.

I also didn't like the women's showers - I had to walk down one floor to get to them, they just had a press button so you couldn't control temperature and had to keep turning them back on, the screens to the showers were just glass doors so there was no privacy at all, and they also had nowhere to store your stuff so you had to walk out of the shower to the bench outside to get your clothes.

Room Tip: Do not stay in twin room 506, it has a boiler in the corner and is extremely noisy.
