I stayed here with my boyfriend two weeks ago for my birthday weekend – a Friday and Saturday night. I’d actually chosen it because of the good reviews on here, however when we arrived, I was pretty disappointed.
The walk in to the hotel is lovely, but unfortunately the one bedroom apartment we’d booked didn’t live up to the standard set by the atrium. Behind the doors of the reception area, the carpets are quite worn and the paint could do with freshening up. The apartment was much smaller than others we have previously stayed in – usually we take our own breakfast items and make a full English, but we didn’t bother this time because the kitchen was so small and didn’t look easy to work in. The living space was dull and quite dated; the TVs are the big old style ones, and the sofa was getting threadbare and flat. One of the door handles was broken, and all of the doors in the space were very noisy – you can’t get up in the night without waking your partner!
The bedroom was fine – plenty of storage space for clothes but it was difficult to use a hairdryer/straighteners close to a mirror. We also both had the most uncomfortable nights sleep – the bed is hard, and the duvet and pillows are very thin. The apartment also didn’t get serviced throughout the weekend, which I thought was odd for a “4 star” hotel – I have noticed this on other reviews too. Overall, the apartment just didn’t have the luxurious feel that I was expecting.
I would like to point out that, if you can stay for very cheap with a last minute deal, it is very central and great for exploring the city. The staff are friendly and helpful – they promptly swapped us to a double bed when we first checked in as we had been mistakenly booked in to a twin room. Everything is supplied and all the appliances worked. Just don’t expect it to be as deluxe as it would have you think – it’s very average and for the price we paid I don’t feel like it was worth the money. I doubt we will stay there again, knowing what else is available for the same, or lesser, price. One last thing – there is no cheap parking near the hotel. The closest and easiest to get to is an NCP just around the corner, which the hotel offers a ‘discounted’ rate for. But be warned - the discount is minimal (around £3!) and thus still cost us around £30 to park for 2 days.
Room Tip: Hotel is very central, so noise from clubs on Canal Street and surrounding areas is to be expected...
