“Very friendly staff!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Despite not being able to arrange an early check in as requested, the staff soon redeemed themselves and over the 2 days that we stayed at the hotel, me and sons were subjected to fantastic and courteous service. The reason for a quick visit to Manchester was to see a Manchester United soccer match. Although the Lowry is not near the Old Trafford football ground, we had heard that the team was checking in the night before the match as is often the case. While the hotel staff (being sworn to secrecy) neither confirmed or denied their presence, we saw some of the team booking in on Friday evening and despite significant security, my sons managed to get a autograph or two form obliging players. Moving on now to what a travel adviser guest needs to know. BREAKFASTS: Service was out the top drawers and selection of food sufficient and fresh. CONCIERGE: Best ever experienced...Russ, Pino and Domonic should be made honorary Mayors of Manchester. Their restaurant referrals and general demeanor were out the top drawers. GENERAL HOTEL: Clean and efficient. LOCATION: Depends on what you looking for. While it was great and exciting for my sons to be in the same hotel as their team, I would have preferred to be located within walking distance of the grounds and it's surrounds so that I would not have had to use a cab / transport so often. The grounds are close museums, shopping centers and the picturesque Salford Quays area. But I suppose I might never the less forgo the location drawbacks and subject myself to more great service if need be.

“Don't go for Spa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I didn't stay there, but went for a massage. Worst spa attached to a fancy hotel I've ever been to. It's lit as brightly as an Ikea. Relaxation room literally has bean-bag chairs. Serenity is not included. Women at desk seemed harried. After having a mediocre massage I went to the bar to have some food and check my email. They ask you to pay for wifi. Not use to seeing this at upscale hotels. Very nice bar waitress called down to front desk and said I had just used spa and was now eating lunch, could I have a code. They said no. Not for me. Snooty. Not worth the snoot.

“Another great week-end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The Lowry is just a very well run hotel, where nothing is too much trouble, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave the place is seamless!
When you arrive the bags are whisked from the car and are delivered to your room before you get there. Not many hotels achieve this.I was checked in by the happy, but highly organised Matilda, who along with Rachel I have dubbed the Julie Walters and Victoria Wood of the world of reception, but their humour and genuine interest is coupled with supreme efficiency.
The beds are big and comfy number one priority for any hotel.
This was a short stay before flying, but I was able to pack a lot in to 48 hours! An excellent Massage with Leanne the spa is calm and relaxed,as it should be.I also went to see Oliver an excellent production with Neill Morrisey well worth it if you get the chance.I went to The Midland French one evening(see separate review).I also had an excellent meal in the Riverside(the hotel restaurant). They have re-vamped the menu and made it more contempary.I had a spicy duck spring roll, followed by a sweey french onion soup that was lovely, followed by Wiener Schnitzel which was perfectly cooked and it would have been rude not to have the Chololate fondant. My friends enjoyed their evening as well.It was washed down with a Margaux 2007 which was sublime.
I would like to pick out 2 other people Lucy in House-keeping is just so helpful, and Nathalie in the bar.She is just one of those people who could bring a smile to the face of Mr Glum!
Are there any downsides(not really)I think they are in the process of adding more plugs in the bedrooms,as in the age of technology one plug is not really enough. But this is minor nit-picking.
This is worth a stay when you in Manchester !

Called for lunch last Friday, weather was lovely so it was a very pleasant view from the bar and restaurant, staff friendly and helpful but the lunch was very ordinary.
