I had no input into the place to stay for a recent conference and everything was booked for me. As such I cannot comment on the cost.
It is very close to Manchester Piccadilly train station (8 - 10 mins walk!) It seems to be in the middle of the university but there are very few signs to tell you exactly where it is. First impressions from outside weren't good but once in the building it was quite welcoming (well it would be after suffering the delights of Cross country trains up from Bristol). The reception is on floor 2 which is street level then it goes down to a mezzanine with business centre and a chill out area before going down another level where the restaurant and bar are situated. My room was on the third floor and was fairly compact but then it was a single room. The bed was pretty large and dominated the room but you had everything you needed. TV, Kettle with tea/coffee, a useable desk for work & a decent chair to sit in. Ther was extra pillows and an iron and board (no corby trouser press here! ;-) My only gripe is that free wifi is advertised but this is only in the reception area, it doesn't even extend to the restaurant! If you want to work in your room then reception will lend an ethernet cable but unfortunately my tablet PC doesn't have the right connection for that. Noise control within the rooms was excellant and when I closed my door I didn't here anyone else other than very faintly so a good nights rest was had.
My colleague and I ate in the restaurant and the food was very nice and not badly priced really but there was hardly anyone in there despite there being about 150 clients that night. The waiter that evening was a spanish gentleman and he was very attentive and friendly. The bar was reasonably well stocked and priced so no complaints there. Breakfast was the usual hotel fare but was all good quality apart from the sausage which had a strange taste but that aside everything else was very nice.
I wouldn't say that the staff were unfriendly but they are mainly from eastern europe and whilst they are no doubt very efficient at their jobs, could smile a little bit when talking to you but maybe that's just a cultural thing?
The morning receptionist seemed a little stressed when we checked out although it didn't seem to be that busy. So would I have any reservations staying here again if I came to Manchester? Absolutely not, it seemd to be a well run business class hotel and is certainly better than most of the travelodges that I have ever stayed in. Recomeended, particularly if you're on a budget
Room Tip: I was in room 340 and my colleague had 339 and both had a decent nights stay

Thank you for your great comments. The only concern I have is with the wifi, we have wifi available throughout the public areas and a cable is supplied as standard for the rooms. I will have the restaurant area checked to ensure it is working. Thank you for your feedback, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
