“Cancelled our booking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Just 2 weeks before we were due to head down to manchester i got an email from them saying 'sorry cant stay here we're closing for refurbishments' You think that they would of know more in advance that they were closing for this refurbishment more than 2 weeks before hand.
And then we had to try and find a new hotel to stay in and they did gives us names of hotels but none of them could accommodate us due to the fact that Take That were playing in Manchester the weekend we were going as this was the reason we were going. They offered to pay the difference in the price but when i told them i could only get ones priced about £200 in the area we wanted to be (i.e easy access to the stadium) they said there are cheaper ones but they were miles away in areas we didnt know.
So i did complain to booking.com where i booked it and the hotel its self. Booking.com got back to me and they dealt with the hotel (oh it was only after booking.com got in contact with the hotel that said they pay the difference)
But we ended up getting a hotel at manchester airport as this was the cheapest option (as we drove from aberdeen and couldnt change our transport as there was no buses etc available at this late stage) So i contacted the hotel again and explain i actually got a cheaper hotel than them and the only thing we thought was far for them to pay for was the transport to and from the airport as we were now further out than we wanted to be, but i never got an answer from them and still waiting for this small compensation we wanted (return fare was about £6 each on the train to manchester city centre so work out that they would only have to pay out £36 to us instead of a couple of hundered) But still have heard nothing
It didnt spoil our weekend and the travelling from airport was ok as brought us right into manchester piccadilly and stadium about 15-20 mins walk from there.

“If you want to stay in a hostel this is the place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

We booked this expecting a hotel with cooked breakfast what we got was a hostel the rooms were vile, although the bathroom was clean, there was no cooked breakfast, we didn't eat anything but if you did you would have to use the toaster or have cereals, I would not stay at Sandown again it seemed to be a hostel for single women with children and i certainly wouldn't class this as a hotel. I don't know where the photos of the rooms were taken from as they certainly weren't in Sandown.

“Such a shame”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

We stayed here several times in the past and always found it excellent value and very welcoming. However, that was some time ago and sadly, the same cannot be said of it now. The bedroom was acceptable though certainly not luxurious and the shower worked well. The first disappontment was on the first morning. In the past, we had an excellent cooked breakfast, prepared and served by a real character but this time, only cereal, toast and tea or coffee were available. I hope the the bread had been in the freezer because it was well past its sell-by date. There was no butter either which was a shame for those people unlucky enough to react badly to margarine. At least the margarine was in an individual sealed container, unlike the second morning when it was simply in a couple of open bowls. There were hardly any cereals on the second morning either so we simply gave up and left. The chap on reception was sympathetic but couldn't provide anything else, although he did promise that butter woul be available the next time. My mate told him not to bother as there certainly wouldn't be a next time. The owners were so friendly and helpful last time we stayed there but this time, they seem to have abandoned the staff.

“The worst room ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

We stayed in the apartment, a few roads from the Hotel, we thought it was under renovation however apart from the decor being terrible, very rough, the bathroom was very dirty the bath had rings of dirt around it, the mirror was all broken, the toilet cistern a hanging off, hence none of us had a wash, the bed linen was dirty and had not been changed there was old food between the sheets and the dovet covers. We all ended up sleeping on top of the beds with our coats over us.

Even though its under renovation there is no reason for everything to be so dirty!

This hotel is the worst place I have ever had to stay in, I was placed in this
Hotel for a week as I was working in manchester and I'm not joking the rooms
Are like crack heads bedrooms. The area that this hotel is situated in is
To be kind like the estate from shameless. The tellys don't work and the
Reception and dining area are shocking. Also this is I'm sure a half way house
For complete drop outs and degenrate idiots. Please please don't stay here
Its not worth it. Its wrong ,wrong ,wrong, wrong
