This hotel was probably quite spectacular in the 1980's when it was opened and last decorated but unfortunately it is badly in need of a facelift. Our flight was delayed so we were late in arriving at the hotel which im sure is not uncommon. When we got to the room we discovered it was in fact a smoking room! The walls and ceiling were yellow and to be frank it smelt abosutely revolting. As non smokers I could not have stayed in there if they paid me and judging by the large number of smokers huddled round the ashtrays outside neither could the people who actually smoke. When I requested a non smoking room I was told rooms were allocated on a first come first served basis (a fact they had not shared when I booked). We were put in the only other room available (allegedly) which was in the inner part of the building so had no windows. The room itself was damp and outdated with water dripping in from the ceiling into a bucket!! The bathroom had mould growing in it and it was generally pretty disgusting. Oh and even though I had paid for a more expensive room it was apparently my choice to not staying in the disgusting smoking room so I was refused a refund of the difference.
Yes this hotel is very central but is it worth it, definitely not. Pay an extra £20 and actually enjoy your stay in a nice hotel.
