My friends and I just stayed over night at The Midland. We had high hopes and were really looking forward to a bit of luxury whilst out for the night in Manchester. The concierge service was good and we used the valet service which was excellent for very little extra to parking the car ourselves. Having checked in we went to our rooms. On route to the rooms I have to say the corridor smelled musty and unpleasant. On entering our rooms I was surprised by the small size of the room and the stains on the wall. Additionally, on the another wall there was a patch of wall which had wallpaper coming off, and bit of wallpaper missing and a botched paint job. Had we arrived earlier I would have asked for a room change but we hadn't got long to get ready before we were going out so we decided to just put up with it. Furthermore, I had arranged for wine and glasses to be delivered to our room for pre going out drinks. I had to ring house keeping twice, once for the right amount of glasses and then to get the wine changed as they had sent two bottles of white wine when I had ordered a bottle of red and white wine. Little things make a difference. Later when we arrived back we had a drink in our room. I pulled the duvet back only to see that the sheets had a stain on them which smelt of sick. It was 1.30 in the morning so I had to endure the smell. I have to say not impressed at all.
