This was the first time I have been to the north of england so the tickled trout looked great on the website but when I arrived it looked like a lorry motel from a bad american film. The staff couldn't speak english. The hotel was tired and dated. My room had a nice view of the river (and the motorway in the background) the room was ok but the walls were paper thin to the extent that I could hear people closing drawers and sniffing in the next room. The bathroom was a disgrace. The sink was badly cracked, a bath only big enough for someone 4 feet tall, the shower screen was too large for the tiny bath so having a shower was difficult and the toilet was too close to the wall so youy couldn't sit on it properly, but most of all it was dirty including mould in the shower and dirt on the basin. Sleep was disturbed by the heavy doors that lead into the rooms being slammed all night by other residents. The food was nice and service was good in the restaurant but overpriced for what it was. Whilst the receptionist said the car park was secure, it was not. Terrible hotel and has put me off the macdonald chain for life.
