We have stayed at the Preston Marriot many times over the last 25 years, even before Marriot bought the hotel. However, our last visit was probably the best we remember. We stayed in the period between Christmas and New Year and there were not many guests. We were given rooms in the old part of the hotel, maybe because we got a deal on Expedia. These rooms are smaller than the newer part of the hotel which are more like the corporate Marriot style. The best part of the stay was the way we were treated by the staff, they were very friendly, helpful and professional, this might be because Marriot has good training but it could also be that the hotel is in the North of England where people are naturally more friendlier. The breakfast was good and fresh with plenty of choice. This was a huge difference to a stay we had a few years earlier when we had a very nice large room. However there was a charity event in the hotel and the room opposite ours was being used as a meeting room. When the party finished the people from the party who wanted to keep the party going used the corridor outside our room, the night staff tried to stop them, but we did not get any sleep that night. So it might be worth checking if there is an event going on in the hotel if you want to be sure of a peaceful stay.
