“Total disgrace, worst hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I stayed here for a works conference, it was last week 07/02/2012 and the weather was -11, the hotel had severe problems with their boiler, hence the hotel being increasing cold and very uncomfortable. The manager had went out to buy heaters and when I requested one at 7pm and was told one of the heaters would be in my room. After dinner (a very bland meal and one steak costing £21 which really should have been £12 at most) I asked at reception if a heater had been placed in my room, as I wanted to check before heading long way to room, I was told yes.
When I got to my room at 9.30pm there was no heater in room and it was freezing, I called reception and was told there had been a mistake and someone would be on there way....30minutes later I called useless reception ( who really tried to pass the buck on to manager etc) and told her to cancel heater as I wanted to go to sleep.
The next morning, checkout was a shambles, with massive queues and reception staff asking other staff how to use the credit card machines, one man behind us threw his key down in disgust telling the staff, he could no longer wait. We were meant to stay another night, but my boss checked us all out and at short notice booked us into a premier inn..all I can say is ahhhh lovely heated rooms and staff who cared about our stay... Please do not waste your money on staying here. We were so disappointed, service was very poor.

Thank you for your recent review and I am sorry about letting you down on this occasion. We as you mentioned had a serious issue with our heating system which had an negative effect on 22 of our bedrooms. We did our utmost to try and get this resolved as quickly as possible and as it turned out to be quite a major job to get this fixed I purchased a large quantity of electric convection heaters to tied us over until we could get the matter resolved which has since been done. I am sorry that there was an issue because as far as I was aware all rooms without heating had a heater put in and left on.

With regards to your meal in the restaurant whilst we endeavour to get it right all the time and the majority of our comments on the food are compliments, whenever there is an issue we will get it rectified straight away.

I would also like to apologise for the issue we had with our credit card machines which delayed our checkout slightly. I would like to have an opportunity to make amends and show you our normal standard of service and would like for you to call me directly to discuss this.

Kind regards

“Not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We are a married couple who booked for threee nights dinner bed and breakfast. The plan was golf for Mr and Spa, Sauna etc for Mrs, nice walks and explore the area for both. We were expecting four star due to the advertised prices, we did however get a reduced price! but to be honest I can't imagine they ever get bookings at the full price. The grounds and views are indeed gorgeous, the golf great, food average to good, rooms we had a standard room which had probably been recently decorated was average but small and not as clean as I would have liked - I did clean the bath to remove dust. Bar, reception and lounge areas were pleasant but too cold to sit in and enjoy a drink - we took ours back to our room. The Spa, pool etc are in a seperate building to the hotel and open to the public The spa teatments were very pleasenat but the walk to get to the treatment rooms is shabby and not inviting - in fact if it hadnt been for the lovely staff I would have probably cancelled my treatment. The steam room was a disgrace broken floor tiles and black mould. The changing rooms were grubby, dated and not at all 4 star you do not feel like you are in a special place. Our room was quite a walk from the restaraunt. We wouldnt stay again for a mini break, but if you only want to play golf I am sure it would be good value, if you get the reduced price. It is not for a special break where you want to feel a bit special or pampered. DEF NOT for a girly weekend - unless you play golf.

Thank you for your recent review and I am glad there were a number of aspects you enjoyed.

With regards to the leisure and spa area you will be pleased to hear that last week we had the pool area and ceiling painted and also all the corridors. In the coming weeks we will be having work started in the changing rooms and gym area.

I would ask that the next time you are visiting the area that you give me a call and I shall arrange an executive room at a special rate for you and you will be able to visit our improved leisure facilities.

Kind regards

Very long walk from reception, bar, restaurant, to rooms. Bed very poor, ripped linen, thin linen, few cheap bathroom products, wifi doesn't work, carpet dirty, decor tatty, shower handle broken, shower water pressure pathetic, dribble at best. Staff nice, food not bad.

Thank you for your recent review.

As we are a storey old building and quite a large complex some of the bedrooms have long corridors but unfortunately this is the nature of the building and not something that can be changed. The products used in the bathroom are from a renowned toiletry company "Gilchrist and Soames", whom I would not have described as cheap.

I would however like for you to give me a call at your convienence to let me know which room you were in so I can get maintenance to ensure that the issues with the shower have been rectified if they have not already done so.

Kind regards

“2nd trip, Nice hotel - good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was my 2nd trip to Tewkesbury park. Booked a refurbished room. Origionally planned to stay with my partner but last minute change at work ment he could not come so i took my neice instead. On arrival i asked if we could have a twin room instead of the double i booked which was dealt with straight away. The room was on the ground floor, well furnished and clean, we did get woken up at 2am and 3am by people shouting in the corridor but to be fair once they were in their rooms it was very quiet.. Dinner was generally very nice although i ordered the 'rosti' and had to send it back as it was not good. This was dealt with very well by Joyce with minimum fuss. I was informed by people from another table that they had done the same the previous night. However everything else was good and i suspect rosti may not be on the menu much longer. Breakfast in the morning was good, not the biggest choice but enough for most people all the same. Overall i would stay here again. I cant comment on the spa or pool this time as i did not get time to use it.

Room Tip: book a re-furbished room.

The week you were here was when we introduced our new menu and I am glad to tell you that we have now changed the rosti.

“Another relaxing weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We have just returned from 2 nights at the Tewkesbury Park, and once again we had a lovely, relaxing time.

We had a room on the top floor this time, double aspect (as the estate agents say) with a view of the Malvern Hills. Room seemed a tad smaller than those on the ground floor overlooking the golf course, but it had the king size bed, and the bathroom, as always, was spotless. ( I'm always amazed by reviewers here who state that their rom was "filthy"; we have never found our room to be such, and if anything the bathroom has always been gleaming!)

We had booked a special DBB package and were not disappointed. On the first night, my partner had a steak that was simply huge, with triple cooked chips, and I had a lovely, big, tender chicken breast with pancetta and peas. Our soup for starters was thick and tasty, and our dessert, Eton Mess, wasboth creamy and fruity and nicely served in china cups. On the second night, we both had the chicken, whilst I began my meal with a beautifully cooked sardine (if I was carping, I could say that I'd have liked more than one, but it was very tasty!) and followed it was a warm, light chocolate brownie with ice cream and rich chocolate sauce. Service was, as always, good - a big hello to the lovely Joyce, by the way, she really makes guests feel welcome and at home!

We used the swimming pool and steam room both days. Now, this area is a little tired and could do with some TLC, but it is serviceable, and a nice facility to use after a day out and about, to unwind before you go in for your dinner. We've never used the gym or squash court so cannot comment on that.

A previous reviewer has commented that they had to go outside the hotel and then back in again to get to their room, however you can access all the rooms by walking through the hotel itself and you don't have to go outside on cold nights. It's probably marginally quicker to do so, but is not essential.

Breakfast was good, cooked breakfast and fruit, cereals, juice, toast, tea or coffee, and you could have as much as you liked. We've always found the breakfasts to be good, offering a wide choice and fair quality.

I don't normally go into detail about the food, but I'm aware that some people have criticised it- well, we've been going to TP for a few years and have never had an issue with the food. It has changed, true, depending on the chef, but we have always found it very good and have enjoyed every meal.

We always enjoy our stay here because we have found the service and quality to be reliable over the years no matter which hotel chain has owned it. On the odd occasion that we have had an issue, it has been sorted speedily to our satisfaction. The staff always seem friendly and pleasant and keen to do their best. Some parts of the hotel do need a bit of updating, but that is just a cosmetic improvement - we go there because we always enjoy it, we feel at home there and think that we get good value for money. And it's the quirks (like those 70's style orange lights in the restaurant - but I don't know, in a way, I would miss them if they went!) that make it what it is - although they really do need to do something about the outside lighting as it is a bit dark in places!!

It's also wonderfully situated, with great views. Tewkesbury is a lovely little town with lots of independant shops and a fabulous Abbey, with Worcester not far away if you need some more retail therapy.

We shall be back again!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the golf course have the biggest beds. You can ask for a quiet room away from th...
