We stayed here for one night as part of a National Holidays trip. We were not too hopeful having read most of the other reviews - and fortunately had not got our hopes up too high.
It is a shame as there were some good points with this hotel however in other respects I have probably been a bit generous giving it a three rating of average.
Now for the good points: the reception areas were nicely appointed, the bar prices fairly reasonable, the evening meal for a coach party was pretty good as was breakfast, the staff were friendly, plenty of hot water and the shower worked well, the tea tray was well stocked.
As so to the bad points: we were given a room right the front of the hotel, the room did smell slightly musty, the secondary glazing was not effective in blocking out the road noise which hardly abated all night plus we could hear an extractor fan constantly humming (as others reported) and to make matters worse the mattress was extremely hard and squeeky and pillows were hard foam efforts which certainly did not aid getting over to sleep, which a numer of people on our trip commented about, so it wasn't just us being too soft. I had about three hours sleep in total which isn't great. All this is before you facter in, sqeeky floorboards, pipes gurgling and a wedding reception with music until 12.30 plus noisy wedding guests making a racket going to their rooms at 2 am.
Some people who were allocated a room towards the back of the hotel reported a reasonable nights sleep but feedback from others was equally as negetive as ours in terms of room confort and the behaviour of the wedding which took over all the reception, lounge/bar areas.
Shame, but I would not need a lot of reassurance about location and standard of room before wanting to stay here again.
