good service, but room very low standard, manky carpets, not that clean, good location tho and parking.

stayed at the royal for a weekend visiting family and friends. the hotel staff/service was friendly and helpful. the location was ideal as it is close to the motorway network and has the added convenience of being located in the town centre. the car park is securely gated and locked during the evenings. the rooms were clean and of a traditional design, prefer these to the cheap chic look you get in travel lodges and other budget chains. we really enjoyed the full english breakfasts in the morning, especially after a good nights partying and the portions were generous. we met the the owner/manager and he really is a jolly character and he kept us amused with his stories and humour. overall my stay was a very pleasant experience. the company i work for has landed a contract in walsall and i have booked 6 work colleagues and myself in for another dose of the electic royal service in march 2010!!!

Attended this hotel today for a business course and it is honestly the worst hotel I've ever had the displeasure of being in and that includes some pretty poor ones abroad. Everything is poor, the service, the cleanliness, the decor and the fixtures and fittings. The carpets are threadbare on the stairs, the toilets dirty and the general upkeep is terrible. I only saw one member of staff and that was a scruffy older guy in jeans and top on the Reception, who seemed more interested in either talking or texting on his mobile. The room we were in was freezing, so much so I had to go for a drive at lunch just to warm up. All the delegates wore coats all day it was that cold. Outside the car park is more like a waste ground and it felt very unsafe. I removed all my belongings just in case. All in all a dreadful hotel with absolutely nothing to offer. I think the rooms are about £54 a night as well so it's hardly cheap either. Just don't go and do yourself a favour.
