I treated my fiance to a night at this hotel for his birthday. I booked the Winter Special and paid just shy of £40 for the night, which was excellent value for money.
We used the Otium leisure complex: the gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. All very nice. We were provided with towels, so this was an added bonus.
The room itself was on the ground floor and very spacious. The TV took some playing with to work out how to use and the reception and channel choice was poor, although we are used to Sky at home. The bathroom was a little lacking. The rooms looked recently refurbished but the bathrooms obviously weren't done. A bit of a shame but didn't detract from our 1 night stay.
The heating worked wonderfully so we were never cold.
We didn't eat in the hotel because we decided that the restaurant and bar was too expensive. We had been out for dinner the night before. If we hadn't had done this we may have chosen to eat in.
A good night's sleep was had, although the bed was a little hard for me. The only thing in the morning is that we were trying to enjoy a lie in but it seems that behind the fire escape that we were next too was the back end of the kitchens, etc. I sneaked a look later and we were all but next to the goods lift. With the sound of doors opening and closing loudly it was a bit off putting because it sounded like our door opening.
We had breakfast in the restaurant. At £10 each this wasn't cheap, but a price to be expected at a 4 star hotel. There was an excellent choice of food and my other half's full english was cooked fresh to order, we were the only people in the restaurant, I think that at busier times hot food would be laid out buffet style. I had continental breakfast and was happy with the choice available. The only negative was that the food had obviously been out for a while. The top slice of bread was stale, the top slice of cheese hard, etc. Also, we did go down to breakfast late, about 20 mins before it finished but they started to clear away the food before we were finished.
All in all a good stay. We would recommend it but ask not to be in room 182, next to the fire escape at the end of the corridor on the ground floor.
