“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We had a super stay this weekend. We came with a group of around 70 or so people and have done for 3 years. It's not inexpensive and neither is the hotel a luxury hotel: What made it special was the excellent attitude and service of the staff- always positive and willing to help. Even the young guys and gals serving the meal in the evening were smiley and willing. I'm sure we'll be back.
Such good service and positive attitude is a real pleasure to experience. So many Hotels are snotty.

“Birthday treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I treated my fiance to a night at this hotel for his birthday. I booked the Winter Special and paid just shy of £40 for the night, which was excellent value for money.

We used the Otium leisure complex: the gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. All very nice. We were provided with towels, so this was an added bonus.

The room itself was on the ground floor and very spacious. The TV took some playing with to work out how to use and the reception and channel choice was poor, although we are used to Sky at home. The bathroom was a little lacking. The rooms looked recently refurbished but the bathrooms obviously weren't done. A bit of a shame but didn't detract from our 1 night stay.

The heating worked wonderfully so we were never cold.

We didn't eat in the hotel because we decided that the restaurant and bar was too expensive. We had been out for dinner the night before. If we hadn't had done this we may have chosen to eat in.

A good night's sleep was had, although the bed was a little hard for me. The only thing in the morning is that we were trying to enjoy a lie in but it seems that behind the fire escape that we were next too was the back end of the kitchens, etc. I sneaked a look later and we were all but next to the goods lift. With the sound of doors opening and closing loudly it was a bit off putting because it sounded like our door opening.

We had breakfast in the restaurant. At £10 each this wasn't cheap, but a price to be expected at a 4 star hotel. There was an excellent choice of food and my other half's full english was cooked fresh to order, we were the only people in the restaurant, I think that at busier times hot food would be laid out buffet style. I had continental breakfast and was happy with the choice available. The only negative was that the food had obviously been out for a while. The top slice of bread was stale, the top slice of cheese hard, etc. Also, we did go down to breakfast late, about 20 mins before it finished but they started to clear away the food before we were finished.

All in all a good stay. We would recommend it but ask not to be in room 182, next to the fire escape at the end of the corridor on the ground floor.

“Business Trip 2 night Stay”

Very professional, prompt and friendly staff, especially the bar staff. Food Lovely at at the restaurant bar. The negative was my room, it was a particularly cold spell and my air con/heater blew out cold air and strangely a very pungent smell of tobacco smoke? The reception immediately brought me an electric heater but I was still cold during the night as obviously I didnt keep heater on due to safety reasons. The rooms need updating as they are tired, carpet stained and bathroom especially, tiles need regrouting as they are black in places.I would have rated this hotel less stars if the staff had not been so on the ball and friendly, they were impressive.

“Lovely”

We stayed at this hotel late January for a masonic 'Ladies Night'. There is plenty of parking, booking-in was easy. Bar staff were slightly lacking at one stage, but I had a word with a manager and it was soon sorted.
The food was great and how they managed to do 130 steaks so well, I don't know, but they managed and it was lovely.
Breakfast was comprehensive and very well presented. There was plenty of regular replacement of eggs, bacon etc. and the coffee was super I think.
Check-out was very easy.
Can't say much more except it exceded my expectations.

Dear muppet3

Thank you for your great review and I will certainly pass on your comments to the team. I know that we are in conversation already about next years event so we look forward to welcoming you back again. I will pass particular praise to our head chef Michael regarding the steaks, you are absolutely correct, 130 fillet steaks all cooked perfectly – I said to him well done at the end of the night – I’m not sure he knew it was a joke!
Thank you again muppet3 and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

“Good value stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

we stayed here for 1 night on a saturday (this was out of racing season) the hotel was very quiet. As you enter the hotel the reception area look every modern and welcoming, we were checked in within the space of just a couple of minutes and given our room key, upon entering the room very impressed with the size of it if anything a bit too much space! we had a ground floor room (110) not sure whether this was the type of room we booked or an upgrade (we booked a standard room this seemed too big for this). The reception / entrance area definitley makes you feel you are at a 4 star hotel unfortunately for me although the room was very large it did feel a bit dated and more like an upmarket travelodge feel maybe a 2 or 3 star room. We didn't eat in the restaurant, i did look at the menu but this felt a bit too expensive although when looking at hotel pricing actually about average (around £20 for a main course plus £3 for a side of potato with it, £6 starter £6 desert) we opted to eat in the racing bar which we loved the feel of this bar again prices were not cheap but again in line with what i think you would expect to pay around £4 for a beer (a variety on offer) we paid £17 for a good size pizza some chips and garlic bread which we shared, the pizza was a chicago town pizza that you cook from frozen though and so it did feel a little over priced!

overall a good stay, we were only using the hotel as a stop over to extend our holiday.

If i had paid full price for the hotel I still think i would have been happy but possibly awarded 3 stars (i believe its £79 per night) however at the price we paid during the Thistle 50% off offer (£39.50) we couldn't be happier! we had looked at premier inns and travelodges in the area and these were more expensive so a good experience if the rooms had been a tad more modern i think 5 stars for sure.

We will be looking to stay again

Room Tip: some rooms do have a view of Brands Hatch raceway

Dear dannhev

Thank you for your review following your holiday extension with us recently. I will certainly have a closer look at room 110 but rarely get any negative feedback from it as the rooms were all refurbished a little while ago. Our food prices are competitively matched to our four star market but I will certainly take on board your feedback when our prices are reviewed for our spring menu which we will launch once we escape this cold spell. Our Thistle winter rate has been very well received and the £39.50 offer has certainly been a hit this winter. You can keep abreast of all of our latest offers on the Thistle website. Thank you again dannhev and I look forward to welcoming you back to Brands Hatch in the very near future.
