I didn’t actually stay at this hotel, I only attended a function being help there. However, based on this experience alone I’m rather glad that I didn’t stay there!!
Upon arriving at the hotel and parking the car in their car park, we walked to the reception door - for which you had to walk on the road as there was no actual footpath leading to its door. As a parent, this concerned me as I do often travel with children. The receptionist was polite enough and we sat down in the reception area whilst awaiting our host.
When we were shown to our conference area, we were led through the breakfast room where staying guests were eating their breakfast. The conference group was rather large and i felt this would be rather off putting to the guests, having a large convoy of people being walked through, between their tables whilst they were trying to eat.
Once we entered the conference room, we were greeted by an awful smell - we were then asked to keep the door open as the staff had tried to (rather unsuccessfully) hide the smell with air fresheners.
During the day, we had a break from our conference and when we asked the staff for assistance in finding the toilets, we were just pointed in a general direct and left wondering round searching by ourselves - and along this wondering journey, we passed a large glassed door and window area and as we just happened to look outside noticed that there was a pair of, what can only be described as, ladies underwear! Obviously we were not interested in examining this item for full identification!
Not sure if this says more about the hotel or the clientele that it attracts?? Bearing in mind that they were heavily advertising for Weddings at this particular Hotel, you would think that they would want to make it look a little bit more respectable!!

Dear Sam

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent review of the Holiday Inn Milton Keynes East on Trip Advisor.

As the General Manager of this hotel I have a great and hard working team, of whom I am really proud, and with them I strive to ensure that all my guests have a pleasant experience at the hotel. I am therefore very grateful for every comment that I get, that can help to ensure that the hotel is an enjoyable success.

All your comments are currently being addressed and where possible, I have ensured that measures be taken to rectify the issues you highlighted. There is however a couple of issues you highlighted that I would like to clarify.

The first is the issue with the car park. The “road” you mention is in fact private with landscaped gardens leading to the main entrance to the hotel, and not a public road. Traffic in this area is minimal and restricted to residents in the hotel. There are also numerous sign posts directing guests from the car park to Reception.

The second issue regarding the passage to your meeting room is again something that is dictated by the structure of the hotel. However, each Conference Room has its own dedicated entrance which guests can access immediately from the car park. Alternatively access can be via the conservatory or lounge area/restaurant.

Finally, I would like to point out that we are a very successful wedding venue, as you can see from previous comments of couples who have been married at the hotel. Unfortunately the experience that you encountered during your visit was by no means complementary; however I do hope that you will give us the opportunity to prove to you that this unusual experience can be improved upon.

With kind regards

“Overnight stay - did the job nicely.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed for a night en route to London and so just wanted a bed in a clean room to break the journey. The was clean and comfortable but nothing special, however for £39 we were happy. Had a couple of drinks in the bar where the staff were friendly. Despite a busy function going on there was no real noise to disturb us during the night. Skipped breakfast to get back on the road and saved the best part of £20 in the process. Was just what we needed and expected.

“Desperate”

I stayed here on 6th December, my 3rd time this year. I was not looking forward to the stay as past experiences had left me feeling very negative. The Hotel is very tired, extremely cold and in need of some Serious investment. We were in a party of 8 and sat down to dinner in the conservatory, within a few minutes we asked to be moved due to the very low temperature, we were moved about ten feet in to the restaurant where it was marginally warmer but still very cold. Our starters arrived in a fairly timely manner and to be honest were all good, the main courses arrived some time later with one missing, mine, despite two promises that it wouldn't be long my colleagues had finished and we had left the restaurant before I was informed that it was ready. Clearly the moment had passed and my anger was at an all time high, I went in search of the duty manager who duly arrived in reception to listen to my complaint, he was very good and immediately apologised for the error, he then suggested that I should let me know what a suitable gesture might be by means of an apology, we opted for a round of drinks. To conclude, a very cold hotel in desperate need of some updating, holes in carpets, lights out and no dinner....

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on Trip Advisor.

Firstly, I would like to start off by apologising for the inconvenience caused during your recent visit. I understand from the Restaurant Manager that you were originally seated in the conservatory for its pleasant surroundings overlooking the gardens. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very cold night which caused the temperature to drop in the conservatory. I am sorry you still felt cold in the main restaurant when you were moved and this has now being addressed with our maintenance team.

With regards to your main course I can only apologise as that was totally our fault, however I understand when the food came out you no longer wished for it. I am pleased my colleague offered a round of drinks on the house, I hope that went some way of saying how sorry we were.

We are constantly updating different areas of the hotel and I am pleased to say that the carpet in question is due to be replaced in the early part of 2012.

As a frequent visitor along with your corporate colleagues on a weekly basis, I can assure you that these events were a one off and not representative of our normal standards.

Once again please accept my apologies and I look forward to welcoming you back to the Holiday Inn Milton Keynes East.

Kind regards

“Dreadful stay from start to finish - Avoid!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

Arrived at hotel late after a long drive. From the outside the Hotel looks very inviting, but as they say looks can be deceptive.
Check in was okay and I was allocated room 38. When I opened the door I was immediatley hit by a stale, sweaty smell, even opening the window did not help. I went to reception and after a wait I was shown to room 34, again the smell was unbearable. I was then moved to room 35 and thankfully this room was okay (or so I thought). Switched on the rather dated small portable TV to find I had only BBC2, at this point I was getting tired and a litle hungry. Another visit to reception and I asked for the TV to be looked at while I ate in the bar.
The meal in the bar was excellent as was the service.
Checked at reception about the TV and was told there was nothing they could do, I asked for a complimentary Movie and this was agreed. Back in the room this did not work (see photo), no sound or picture. At this point I gave up and turned off the light. 3AM I was awoken by a fire alarm, a truly dreadful noise, after which I found it difficult to get back to sleep.
Following morning I switched on the shower and when I returned to get in, the broken shower head bracket had meant the whole bathroom was flooded!!!!!
At check out I asked to speak to the manager and was told he wasn't yet in and no one was available to listen to my complaint or reduce my bill, even though he was enjoying his breakfast in the restaurant as she said this (confirmed when I later spoke to him). I was told he would ring later. I rang back 8 hours later and he was still unavailable and I insisted somebody rang me. An hour later he rang me and after listening to my complaints he apologised and said he would look into it. An E mail duly arrived with a £50 discount and I asked for a final bill as the receptionist did not give me one at check out. This then took a further 4 e mails and 3 phone calls to get, and then it was wrong as I had been overcharged, they say 3 course meal inclusive deal when you book on line, but the hotel say its 2 course or £18!
I am still waiting for a credit for the overcharge as I write.
The worst Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in, avoid and sleep in your car.

Dear Sir

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on trip advisor and on other websites.

When this complaint came to light, I picked up the phone immediately to you as I prefer to speak to the guest and re-assure them that I am handling their complaint. As a gesture we did discount your room bill and a further discount on your food and beverage meal.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards
