“It is OK”

Location – Just off the A5 on the edge of Milton Keynes – the hotel is situated in two mile ash a pleasant residential area of MK. Looking over the golf course you cannot really complain about the setting – but if you want to go into the city you will need to drive.

Parking – Lots of parking & something different – 4 or 5 bays by the front door reserved for ladies – first time I have seen that.

The building – from the Tesco School of architecture of the late eighties / early nineties.

Reception & Public areas – Fresh & clean – tiled floors leather sofas.

The rooms – Large & comfortable – they do need updating but for a night or two they are fine. Two single beds pushed together with large duvet over.

The bathroom – good size, plenty of towels – shower over bath – the shower curtain had seen better days

Food – Breakfast usual self-service – but were happy to cook fresh fried / poached eggs to suit.

Staff – very friendly

Over all – you could do worse.

Tip – eat out in Stony Stratford the small village about two miles away – good choice of venue.

“Not a Quality hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2007

As with other reviewers my room smelt of long term dampness as did other areas of the hotel. The room was in need of a refurb but it wasn't the worst room ever. The bed was massive and quite comfortable but other room facilities were quite old and uncomfortable. The bathroom was small but functional and I agree with other reviewers that you will need to take some nice toiletries of your own as the sachets of shampoo were rubbish. The worst problem was that I was there for a 4 night stay over a weekend (Thurs - Sun nights inclusive). The Hot water went off on Saturday afternoon and didn't come back on by the time I had left. They were unable to give me different room and I had to use another room with working hot water on a rotational basis with other hotel users. Really not a pleasant or relaxing experience. They did offer me some free drinks but I declined asking only that they wipe clean a previous bar bill which they did.

Breakfast was in the the newly refurbished restraunt and was quite good. I didn't eat any other meals in the hotel. The staff tried to be helpful but for some reason they seemed to fail.

Again as with all previous reviewers I was under the impression that the hotel was only a couple of minutes walk from Milton Keynes centre. Not so, but it was only a short taxi ride in a local minicab.

This would be my last choice hotel for future stays in Milon Keynes but I would return if there were no other options.

“QUALITY !!!!!!!! NOT”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2006

I booked this hotel because we were going to the Robbie Williams concert at the National Bowl.I booked it for convenience not price~big mistake !!!!
My main concern regarding booking accomodation was whether we could walk back to the hotel quickly and safely as I was aware booking a taxi would be difficult.
I booked my room at this hotel because I was told by reception that it was a SAFE walk to the National Bowl which would take fifteen minutes, thirty minutes top end !!!!!!!! Umn....they do have a funny sense of humour !!!!!!
We arrived at milton keynes by train and got a taxi to the hotel, quicky realising the hotel was quite far out from the National Bowl and the train station.
Getting to the concert by taxi was £7 and not a problem, getting back to the hotel was a whole different ball game as I had expected. Our fifteen to thirty minute SAFE walk actually took 1 hour and twenty minutes and meant we had to walk up the side of a dual carriageway, believe me it didn't feel that safe !!
It just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you are told !
When talking to other guests (in the ' VERY BASIC 'swimming pool or is it a paddling pool ?!!!) it became apparent that there had been various tall stories regarding the walking distance to the National Bowl as they had been told by reception that it would take five minutes and was a safe walk!!! We made the assumption that we had been misinformed to get the booking.I dont want this to happen to other people~it's out of order.
On the positive, the room was comfortable, large and clean.the staff were lovely, helpful and polite.
On the negative, for some reason the main hallway smelt strongly of cheesy feet !! the leisure facilities were not as plush as I was expecting and needs work !!!!! Food was shocking, poor quality, luke warm and expensive.Infact dinner was so bad I skipped breakfast which they had priced at £12 ! Also witnessed some funny mishaps with other guests orders and for a moment thought i was at faulty towers, trust me if you still want to stay there stick to the peanuts !
Over all not the best place to stay, misleading, but ok if all you want to do is get your head down, providing that if you are returning from the National Bowl on foot you make it up the dual carriageway in one piece !!!!!!!

“Good for those on a budget”

Well the breakfast was delicious and the rooms were nice and large, with possibly the biggest double bed ever!!
Problem was - the room smelt like wet dogs!
On our way out I did hear I guy asking what the smell was but the receptionist didn't seem to be being particularly helpful, they appeared to be playing dumb!
It isn't a particularly centrally located hotel either, but a taxi into the centre was cheap enough.
To sum it up, I'd say it was average.

“Just what we needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2006

We needed a reasonable hotel for this years Monsters Of Rock at the Bowl.

Room was fine, bed was King size, we were also able to book a double room for just under £45 which seemed like a good price. And the bar was still open after midnight.
No traffic noise even with the window open meant a good nights sleep.

Didn't bother with breakfast (£12 seemed a bit steep) but there's a BP garage just over 5 mins walk away for Bacon Baguette and coffee.

The site we booked through said that the Bowl was only 2 kilometers away so we planned to walk there. That is rubbish, it's over 3 miles so we had to take a taxi for £5.

Getting back after the show we had to walk for 30 minutes to the Train Station to get a taxi back to the hotel

Would book again next year
