“Nice for a Hilton Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I have stayed in quite a few Hiton hotels and, not surprisingly, all are very similar although my more recent experiences have found rather tired hotels overdue for a refurbishment. The Hilton Basingstoke was very pleasant - the common areas and room were clean and well equipped although I find the TV system now outdated compared to other Hotels. Despite having a modern flat screen TV the Hilton Entertainment system overides the advantages of Digital TV (TV Guide, Planner, Information etc.) offered in standard setups so you get a very antiquated looking sytem (it was fine ten years ago) which doesn't give you the functionality you expect every day from a TV. A minor issue maybe but when alone on a business trip it is nice to be able to plan your TV viewing when you get the opportunity to be selfish!
~The staff were very pleasant and professional - as expected. The food was not exciting but I always find the Hilton eating experience somewhat uninspiring.

“Not for long stays”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Clean and respectful. Majority of staff from outside the UK. Restaurant servers not the most qualified. Simple mistakes amplified with large crowd. Week nights are have large crowds. Everyone tries very hard to please.
Every bed in hotel is hard, no exceptions and no foam pads! Housekeeping is slightly above average. No special treatment for long stays. No executive treatment. Second floor hallways sound with foot falls due to very loose wooden boards under the carpeting.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor regarding your recent stay in Hiklton basingstoke..

I am pleased that you found my staff respectful and eager to please, however I note your comments regarding service and thank you for your observations.

It is appreciated that you found our housekeeping standards above average, as my housekeeping team strive to achieve a high standards of room care for guests. Hardness/softness of beds is very much personal preference however Housekeeping can supply a mattress topper to soften the bed surface.

We do value our guests feedback as it is a way of monitoring our service standards so that we might improve the guest's experience during their stay and thank you once again for your time
in posting a review.

Yours sincerely,

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

When on business in Basingstoke I usually use the Holiday Inn as I find the price and service to be very high. I tried the Hilton on my last visit and will be using the Holiday Inn from now on.
In what was a deluxe room I found it to be all rather tired, the bathroom was old and the bedroom furniture had seen better days. The TV had minimal channels. However the bed was very comfortable.
My main gripe being staff seemed surely and not overly friendly, with the exception of the Italian man in the restaurant at breakfast. If you choose to work in a customer facing service industry position smile and make guests feel welcome or get out and let someone else have a job.
Perhaps a more proactive manager would help?
Food was fine and breakfast surprisingly good.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your taking the time to write a review of our hotel.

We were sorry to learn that you were disappointed with your recent stay, however I am pleased to note that your meal experience was fine and your breakfast good.

Fifty five of our bedrooms have recently been refurbished, however the remaining rooms are on a rolling refurbishment programme continuing for 2012 which will update all the bedroooms.

We always endeavour to offer the highest level of service and it would appear on this occasion that we failed to meet your expectations. Staff friendliness is one of the attributes that guests remark on the most in our customer feedback and also comments on Trip Advisor.

However, your comments will be forwarded to the relevant managers for their information and attention and I do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We do hope that despite your disappointment , we have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel at some point in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Iain Pollock

“Great service and comfortable room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We arrived late and tired and just wanted to get into our room. Checkin was quick and easy, the room was quite a distance from reception, but maybe that was because I was tired. Room service was great, food was tasty and quick. Bed was comfortable and room was in good condition.

Even though the M3 was not far away I did not hear it from the room, which is always a worry.
