“Short break wish it was longer”

Booked this hotel at the last minute, I normally stay other Hotels whilst in Bolton. Was not sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised.
Bad points first we had booked a disabled room and though it was of a good size its location was as far from the reception as possible which was one hell of a distance. The bathroom had a low bath in it with a shower over it ( which my disabled partner struggles to get into ) and the room was a little bit tired (nothing a lick of paint couldn't put right)
The good point outweigh the bad points by far
The room was a very good size with a very comfy bed, bathroom was large, dressing table, table and chair also good, open plan wardrobe (This I am not a lover of) Ironing board and iron in the room with tea coffee and biscuits plentiful with more given on request. Tv although old worked well with choice of 8 or 9 stations. Heating worked very well.
Reception and staff very pleasant and welcoming easy to check in and out. Staff polite and helpful and not in the least bit pushy.
Bar area pleasant though we only had 1 drink at the bar it appeared comfy and friendly.
Appeared to be a w ifi area though we did not use it, a lot of people with laptops was sat in this area so I supposed it works.
Did not dine in the hotel at night due to other appointments but the food looked nice as we walked past and would certainly try it the next time.
The breakfast was an extra £5 each and was very good value for money. It is of the buffet type so eat as much as you want with the bacon in particular very good quality.
Will stay here again

Room Tip: Great views from the front of the Hotel

“Pleasing Most of The People, Most of The Time.”

It's fair to say I stay in all sorts and all grades of hotel, both in the UK and further afield. Frankly, I just don't get what some people feel justified in moaning about with this hotel? It's clean, comfortable, well run, has ample free parking outside, and offers an extremely good breakfast selection. The reception, dining room and cleaning staff meanwhile, are pleasant, polite, smartly dressed and helpful when needed. Yes, it's a little old-fashioned in it's outlook, but I quite like that. And yes, (some of) the carpet and furnishings in communal areas are starting to look a little tired.

But then let's keep things in perspective here... I've paid over £600 a night in some hotels, and rightly so, they're without doubt at the top of their game. On the other hand, I've (regularly) paid in excess of £50 a night for Travelodge rooms in the UK. Which are often dirty, tatty, smelly, offer no service other than a checking in and out process, and can't even offer a cooked breakfast even if you wanted it. I mean who wants something from Burger King for breakfast for goodness sake?

Due to the location of family and friends, I tend to stay at the Britannia in Bolton, or the one in Wigan when I'm in that area. I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure where they make up the so-called normal room rates, which are often £100+ per night. That said, I can't remember EVER paying more than £29.99 for a room at the Britannia in Bolton. Double room, smoking or non-smoking options, indoor pool and even a small gym. Even better, that includes a full breakfast too! The only thing that lets down the Britannia chain in my experience - and it's an opinion shared by many people I know, it the Britannia in Stockport. In complete contrast to Bolton and Wigan, the hotel in Stockport is run (seemingly throught) by staff who shouldn't even have a job. Rude, offensive, etc. etc. The rooms, cleanliness and beds meanwhile are... Well let's just say even the UK Travelodge chain puts them to shame... and that#s really saying something!

Room Tip: A minor moan, but try to avoid rooms too near the gym and indoor pool. They can get very warm/humid...

“Xmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We spent Xmas at the Britannia Hotel last Xmas and really enjoyed it so we came back again this year (coach party ) Everything was fine again although the weather was abit different from last year. The restaurant staff were marvellous and always offered alternatives if you did not like what was on the menu (sweets). There was always plenty of tea ,coffee and cakes available. The hotel was clean and warm, I dont know how they do it for the price.
Only one niggle the cottage pie on Boxing day was a bit insipid but I would still give the holiday 9/10 I have read some of other peoples comments but can honestly say I did not come across anything detrimental
Many Thanks

Room Tip: not too far from lifts

“FANTASTIC TIME”

Just returned to Aberdeen after staying in the Britannia Bolton for the New Year. We did a bus trip with David Urquart, 3 nights and 4 days. Had a great time. Hotel clean and bedroom nice and warm, loved the fact there was a fridge (so we could have a bottle of champers nice and chilled for the bells) staff freindly, entertainment amusing and good fun. Just what we needed to bring in the New Year.
Could I just say that sometimes the attitudes of some guests will and can upset the freindly staff. Remember they are human and the staff on duty were curtious, freindly and enjoyed a joke and a bit of fun, which helped us, as the paying guest enjoy our stay.
Would we go back, of course we would.
