Classed as an 'airport' hotel. Buses run half hourly or so from early morning to the wee small hours. Transfer should take about 30 - 45 mins depending on the time of day of your transfer.
We had a nightmare transfer back to the airport due to the number of skiers with 3 pieces of luggage each getting on at the Travelodge (last stop on the way back to the airport); the problem being that the transfer from our hotel to the North terminal took fully over an hour as a result.
We arrived about 4pm on the Saturday. Quick, efficient check in. Room small but ideal. Very warm, very clean, good facilities, bed very comfortable. Bathroom very clean also, with good efficient shower.
What amazed me was how quiet this hotel was through the night. I am a light sleeper and normally at 'airport' hotels where travellers are checking in and out at all times of the day and night, I am wakened frequently. However, not so in this case - I was only wakened once around 1am - by some French guests staggering back to their room(s). A definite plus for me! Similarly our room was above the airport bus drop off point, where the service runs into the night, and again I wasn't troubled by the noise of the bus or the main road/roundabout where the hotel is situated.
Found the hotel bar prices to be a bit high, but then I suppose it is London and it is an airport hotel (it was the same as in Gatwick itself!). Two drinks for £10.00? The bar/ restaurant areas were busy with people eating in both the bar and restaurant. We did not eat in the hotel.
The pool area is overlooked from the bar area and it looked very nice. Again though we didn't make use of the leisure facilities.
The plus for us was the location of the hotel in relation to the Leisure Park about 15 mins walk from the hotel. There you'll find a cinema, bowling and every kind of restaurant except Indian. We bought cinema tickets then went to Chiquitos for food. We were delighted that we were entitled to 20% discount off our bill by showing our valid cinema tickets for that day. Rounded the evening off after dinner and the movie with a drink in the hotel bar.
Felt very safe walking to and from the hotel to the Leisure Park - even with the return journey in the dark. It's a busy road and there is loads of traffic back and forward.
We checked out at 5.30am so we really didn't have much more than a twelve hour stay (we were room only basis for that reason) but our initial impression based with our limited experience of the hotel wouldn't stop me from recommending it.
It's the furthest away of the hotels on that bus run but probably worth the extra time in the bus. As I mentioned before only negative for us was the return bus journey to the airport - but that isn't any fault of the hotel. Worth a mention as it has made us more aware of maybe getting the earlier bus next time - even although we had allowed enough time for check/security in it was an unnecessary anxiety.
Remember that the shuttle bus isn't free/provided by the hotel and to budget for the fare in each direction. It's not expensive though.
Perfect place to stay before or after a Gatwick flight, and reasonably priced (if you get the online deals and not the rack rates!). Would stay here again - with the convenience of the Leisure Park close by - it's ideal.
