“Very good for an overnight stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Classed as an 'airport' hotel. Buses run half hourly or so from early morning to the wee small hours. Transfer should take about 30 - 45 mins depending on the time of day of your transfer.
We had a nightmare transfer back to the airport due to the number of skiers with 3 pieces of luggage each getting on at the Travelodge (last stop on the way back to the airport); the problem being that the transfer from our hotel to the North terminal took fully over an hour as a result.

We arrived about 4pm on the Saturday. Quick, efficient check in. Room small but ideal. Very warm, very clean, good facilities, bed very comfortable. Bathroom very clean also, with good efficient shower.

What amazed me was how quiet this hotel was through the night. I am a light sleeper and normally at 'airport' hotels where travellers are checking in and out at all times of the day and night, I am wakened frequently. However, not so in this case - I was only wakened once around 1am - by some French guests staggering back to their room(s). A definite plus for me! Similarly our room was above the airport bus drop off point, where the service runs into the night, and again I wasn't troubled by the noise of the bus or the main road/roundabout where the hotel is situated.

Found the hotel bar prices to be a bit high, but then I suppose it is London and it is an airport hotel (it was the same as in Gatwick itself!). Two drinks for £10.00? The bar/ restaurant areas were busy with people eating in both the bar and restaurant. We did not eat in the hotel.

The pool area is overlooked from the bar area and it looked very nice. Again though we didn't make use of the leisure facilities.

The plus for us was the location of the hotel in relation to the Leisure Park about 15 mins walk from the hotel. There you'll find a cinema, bowling and every kind of restaurant except Indian. We bought cinema tickets then went to Chiquitos for food. We were delighted that we were entitled to 20% discount off our bill by showing our valid cinema tickets for that day. Rounded the evening off after dinner and the movie with a drink in the hotel bar.

Felt very safe walking to and from the hotel to the Leisure Park - even with the return journey in the dark. It's a busy road and there is loads of traffic back and forward.

We checked out at 5.30am so we really didn't have much more than a twelve hour stay (we were room only basis for that reason) but our initial impression based with our limited experience of the hotel wouldn't stop me from recommending it.

It's the furthest away of the hotels on that bus run but probably worth the extra time in the bus. As I mentioned before only negative for us was the return bus journey to the airport - but that isn't any fault of the hotel. Worth a mention as it has made us more aware of maybe getting the earlier bus next time - even although we had allowed enough time for check/security in it was an unnecessary anxiety.

Remember that the shuttle bus isn't free/provided by the hotel and to budget for the fare in each direction. It's not expensive though.

Perfect place to stay before or after a Gatwick flight, and reasonably priced (if you get the online deals and not the rack rates!). Would stay here again - with the convenience of the Leisure Park close by - it's ideal.

Room Tip: The small rooms are good. If you only stay for one night small is ok, but if you want a longer stay...

Thank you for taking time to comment on your stay at the Crowne Plaza London Gatwick hotel.
I am delighted that you enjoyed your short stay with us, I do hope that if you use the hotel again in the future you will be able to make use of all the facilities.

From your comments you enjoyed a quiet night in the hotel, but we do offer a Quiet Zone if that is a priority for you ,these rooms are located in a quiet part of the hotel or on a high floor.
When you are booking you could always put this as a request..

Thank you once again I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back in the future.

“Great hotel if you are in a Club room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

If you can afford it always stay here in a Club Room, much bigger and better service with access to the lounge for a free breakfast and drinks and nibbles the night before.
Perfect place to stay before or after a flight from Gatwick

Room Tip: Club rooms are the best

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Rooms are nice, shower was brilliant. The lady at reception who served us was really friendly, polite and nice.

The pool and steam room are ok but the changing rooms are digusting and smell like wee. Sauna is not too great either. I think it is because the gym is used by non hotel goers?? Either way yuck!

The restaurant was ok, big portions and nice enough food - again nothing special.

Was ok for a stop over before a flight but would not stay here again unless no other alternative.

Thank you for writing a review following your stay with us. I was really pleased to hear you found your bedroom comfortable and found our reception staff friendly and polite. I was sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience in the Health Club changing rooms. These are thoroughly cleaned daily and we usually do not receive negative feedback regarding the changing rooms. Thank you again for your comments.

“Superb as always!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed at the above hotel as part of Holiday Extras hotel and parking package (used it several times and in my opinion is simply the best).

The hotel always offers a friendly welcome and staff speak most common languages, there are superb facilities with the swimming pool, jacuzzi and newly refurbished gym and the food and breakfast in the restaurant anb bars are always top notch!

The rooms themselves are very comfortable and well equipped and I always request a quiet room on the upper floors away from the lifts, they always oblige and I always have a really good night sleep.

If you do want to go out Crawley town centre is a 20 min walk or £5 in the taxi and offers plenty of bars and restaurants. One of the first pubs you will arrive at is the Old Punch Bowl which has plenty of charm and character.

Once again a cracking stay at this lovely conveniant hotel, well done to all the team at Crowne Plaza - Gatwick!

“watch out for additional costs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I had a recent stay at this hotel and am sad to report that I was the victim of one of the more shameless displays of profiteering that I have witnessed.

The morning after my nightstop I suffered a key malfunction in my car that rendered me unable to drive out of the hotel. Initial calls to the dealers suggested 3 days to have a new key arranged. Reception were contacted and they assured that the car was fine to remain on site and that they'd noted the reg and would ensure it wasn't clamped or subject to huge bills.

Unfortunately 2 days after my car was released from the car park I noted, from a bank statement that a charge of £60 had been debited from my account by the hotel, all without any consultation or authorisation.

Subsequent calls to the hotel confirmed that they had, as a matter of policy charged me the full rate for parking on site for this period irrespective of the facts outlined above. Eventually this was halved but the shameless chase for profit suggests a hotel which places the demands of the accounts sheet above the need for honest customer service.

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at the hotel. I am sorry that you felt that the
car park charge was unreasonable. We do offer secure parking facilities at the hotel and the tariff per day is clearly displayed as you enter the barrier . We only have a limited number of spaces and that is why we have to operate a barrier system.

I am sorry that your car developed a problem it was very unfortunate for you , but the hotel only charged the daily rate for car parking for the amount of days the car remained in the car park. These charges were not hidden or additional ,but the normal car parking charges for any guest leaving a car at the hotel.. Our charges are per day and are in line with other facilities in the area.
