“too far from airport”

upon arrival after traveling for 8 hrs with a young child we were told the restauraunt was closed for a private function. After being in the room for nearly an hour they knocked and told us we could dine in a seperate room. The food was terible! We had the chicken curry and it tasted like uncle bens sauce. The room was ok,just what you'd expect for the money. When I called to book they said a taxi would cost around 6 or 7 pounds. This is not the case! If you are travelling I would think seriously about this place. There is nowhere else around to eat.Taxi is expensive and if the restaurant is closed you will be stuck in your room with nothing else to do.

“Characterful hotel just outside Crawley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

I stayed here for a week at the beginning of 2009 (I know the review says Jan 2010 but the drop-down doesn't have an option for Jan 2009!), as I needed a base to explore Crawley, having been offered a job in Three Bridges. I decided against the usual safe option of chain hotels and chose the Regency, which is down a country lane. The sat nav had no problems finding it and the hotel is well sign posted. It is an old hotel, and in my opinion full of character and charm. However, those seeking luxury and modern style will not enjoy it. I was happy during my stay, Kaye and Michelle looked after me very well - dinner was never a problem, nor was advice on trains, local sight seeing, avoiding peak traffic flow or general British life. They even conjured up a fan and an ironing board (although though the outside temperature was below zero, I hadn't managed to get the hang of the central heating so asked for a fan to cool the room down). The hotel is set in large grounds so families with children can let them run around outside. There is a pool too for the summer months. In all, a great value hotel very well located for both Crawley and Gatwick Airport - I would recommend.

“Idyl... in a sea of chaos!”

I was shocked to find this hotel - it looked far too good to be true... BUT IT REALLY WAS.

Yes the rooms are furnished "traditionally" but the hotel is 4 miles from Gatwick - and a taxi there costs £13! Use the maths - cheapest car parking versus night in a hotel and arrive at the airport relaxed. There really is no comparison. It even has a pool!

“Great htel”

We stayed for a night at the Regency recently as we were picking up our daughter from Gatwick and didn't fancy an early start from Norfolk. The room was booked via Laterooms for £45. The Hotel was much much better than others in this price range and we were particularly impressed by the pleasent and likeable staff. The room we were initially allocated had a shower rather than a bath and, as my wife prefers a bath, we asked if it were possible to change . Absolutely no problem, and not a sigh was heard!! Nice rooms, perhaps a litle dated here and there, TV's a little old but we would certainly return here prior to a flight from Gatwick. Breakfast was £7.50 and worth every penny. Thinking to the future, we asked if you could leave your car there and were quoted £15 per week which seems a good deal. All in all a very peaceful visit.

“Charming and excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2008

We stayed here in June 2008 while attending a friend’s wedding at the nearby Alexander House Hotel. I found it excellent value for money (we paid £55 for a double room including breakfast) and would highly recommend it. Admittedly our room was not as large as the one with the four-poster bed featured on the website, but it was clean, comfortable and cosy. It had a lot more character than equivalently priced rooms in chain hotels as well.

The hotel itself is very well maintained set in a garden with its own outdoor swimming pool and seating. It I definitely one of the best places I have stayed in for the price.

All in all though, a sweet and charming place to stay.

  • Liked — Great value and rooms with character
  • Disliked — Have to get a taxi from the station if no car
