Having stayed at several hotels around Gatwick before and after holidays we were dismayed to find that the Britannia Lodge runs its shuttle service on a rigid schedule, unlike the last hotel we stayed at that send a shuttle promptly for us as soon as we arrived at the airport. Thus, having arrived back at Gatwick in sub-zero temperatures at 10.30pm, we had to wait until 11.45pm for the shuttle to pick us up. Unfortunately this was a portent of what was to come.
After checking in and opening our hotel room door I thought there must have been some mistake and that we'd been allocated staff accommodation. A dingy room with pull cords like those found in sheltered housing awaited, with a "disabled" bathroom and two single beds placed foot to foot along one wall (we are a married couple!). The room was freezing cold, and the TV out of the ark. The single duvets on each bed were so small that they would have barely covered a small child, and so it was that, too exhausted to go back to reception to ask to change rooms, we spent a cold and miserable night. Never again, and before a hotel rep replies to this telling me we could have changed rooms, I submit...why put your guests in such a room at all?
