“What a shocker”

Stayed here, as it seemed impressive from the website - BUT oh my god.
The staff where rude, the food poor and the general condition of the hotel was dirty. The conservatory was a miss match of grubby furniture, with the rooms dated and very noisy (could there next door moving around).
The staff's main aim was to finish for the day, NOT to look after the residents.
To be frank, the Premier Inn is better - at least you know what your getting and its a lot cheaper.
Smelly, dirty, and unwelcoming - give this one a WIDE birth....

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel!!!

“Convenient for businessmen..otherwise a ghost town.”

The website is misleading. A pretty building although situated on a main road, overlooking houses with a Hospice sharing the same car park. Our room was very dated although clean but nothing special. This hotel is eerily quiet. Clearly the only guests checked in are businessmen (I could count the number of women on one hand). The website boasts about this fantastic restaurant 'Harveys', again, misleading. The food was ok but predictable, service was friendly. The restaurant needs some updating. There is just no atmosphere at this hotel and I don't think i would like to go back. Sorry!!

“Don't believe the website”

This hotel was disappointing. Forget the bathrobes and candles, ultra clean description from the website as the building is tired and the hotel in decline. We stayed in room 114, a feature room with four poster bed. The upholstery has been renewed recently and is great and the furniture solid but in need of some TLC and whilst the sink and key areas had been cleaned, the ornaments had a thick layer of dust and the carpet was covered in pieces of paper especially under the bed. There was no information in the room and the restaurant opening times remained a mystery. Apparently the hotel does room service but there were no details of how to access it and the chef goes home at 9pm, on the dot.

Service was attentive in the restaurant but the food was overcooked, and service errors incldued asking me if my meal was ok after I had finished instead of during it and interupting my husband during his main course to ask if he wanted a dessert "because the chef wanted to know if he should stay on". Fancy a coffee? Not a chance, we waited but took the hint when the candles were blown out on the table next to us and it was noisily cleared.

Pets are accepted - for a fee of £15, but not in the feature rooms. However this is not a pet friendly establishment. There are no designated dog walking areas or bins just a notice saying 'do not walk on the grass', dogs are not allowed in the bar or restaurant although there is a conservatory and despite there supposedly being 24 hour reception, the main door was locked overnight and we couldn't get out when the dog needed a walk in the night. In fact the front door was not unlocked until 8.20am!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

“not a place to recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We arrived on a Saturday evening at around 6pm, we booked this hotel as it looked homely with bar and restaurant. Upon arrival we noticed that there was a wedding reception taking place in the hotel. We asked what time we could book a table for evening meal but was told due to the wedding the restaurant was closed. We was informed that the local pub (5 mins walk) was good and did food. we suggested having a couple of drinks in the bar before heading off to find local pub for dinner. we was then informed that the bar was closed to guests due to the wedding. Surely a hotel of this size could have two bars to accomadate both parties. The local pub was in fact 15 mins walk away, but did great food and was very friendly.
The room itself was spacious and clean, bathroom was very big but bit dated. bed was clean and comfortable enough. the walls in the room were so thin that you could hear the people in next room talking. Also when neighbours came to bed at 2am we could hear them fill their kettle and make tea.
Breakfast was nice but service not great, we stood wating to be seated before realising that the staff are not actually ignoring you, they just presume you know to sit anywhere.....
Cooked breakfast was served on massive plates that made the food look tiny. The fried bread is a n experience in itself, they serve you a piece the shape and size of a 2pound coin. Bit weird....
When we checked out and paid the bill they did not even ask if we enjoyed our stay and if everything was ok. Mybe they are told not to as they are fed up with complaints.
Overall the hotel is clean and tidy, the room spacious but thin walls, service not the best and certainly not a place we will go again.
Maybe they should tell you when you book that there is a wedding reception going on and you are second rate citizen to them (thats how it felt).
For price paid we only give it about 4 out of 10.
Good luck if you stay here.

“Not great food at all...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

Just wanted a quiet get away for a Saturday night, and this place looked pretty good. Checking in was fine, last orders for food 9.15pm (odd time I thought), but at 9pm we sat down to a deserted restuarant, 4 other people one one table the only other guests. Order pate, chicken and sos 'n' mash. The pate was so bland it was untrue, like something you would buy from Tesco's, but worse. Chicken looked and I am told tasted ok, but the sos n mash was kinda bizzarre. The mash was not fresh mash, more like tinned or packet, horrid, the gravy was "limp" to say the least. Cheese and biscuits to cheer me up? Nope, 3 pieces of cheese and 4 crackers, no butter!
Waitress must ahve been so busy, never cam eback to see if we were OK, didnt seem interested in getting us another drink, i had to wait for her to stroll back. Not great at all, and for fifty odd quid, I would want better. VERY poor food.

The room, 110. Don't book that one, it is right above reception, so you hear the phone ringing and all what goes on downstairs. The bed side lights dont work. There are cracked tiles in the bathroom floor, and you get one towel! Between two of you. Bed was fine, and it was clean, but getting out of bed to switch off the light isnt what I want to do.

Breakfast next morning, good! Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, a real favourite of mine.
