“Outstanding Business Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We visited this hotel for a two day training conference and were delighted with the level of quality and service we found. The hotel appears to be divided in to two sides, one containing bedrooms, the other small, medium and large conference rooms. Facilities within the conference rooms include interactive boards etc and are supplied with large comfortable chairs, tables and water which is replaced regularly. Outside the conference rooms, there are are refreshment areas which have fantastic coffee along with fizzy drinks, biscuits, cakes and fruits. Lunch is a buffet type service which had fantastic food including things like pork chops, pasta, mixed grills, rice, lots of veg and salad and fruit. During lunch, you are given a list of choice for evening meal which is chosen in advance, the choices are premium and you have to work hard choose one!

The bedrooms are comfortable and have free of charge WiFi along with a large bath and decent shower. Beds are comfortable and rooms are supplied with a decent sized desk.
There are two bars one of which is supplied with a pool table and jumbo sized games like Jenga, all of which are free of charge. There is also a small gym with modern equipment in addition to a pool and steam room.

The hotel is a fantastic destination for sales meetings, training and small conferences. There is plenty of parking but one minor issue is that the hotel is quite remote; easy enough to find with a satnav but I think it was chosen in this way to make sure you are a captive audience and spend plenty in the bar! However, most people who stay here will be on expenses so it shouldnt really matter too much. I wouldnt recommend the hotel to tourists, only business travellers.

Room Tip: Ask for one close to the front as it can be a long walk back to reception

“Best customer service I have ever received”

I stopped here in November 2011 as it was the end point of a 3 day run I had competed in (and mostly has to walk - but thats a different story). Anyway i was pretty tired and beat up when i arrived but the staff couldn't do enough to help me. The receptionist, bar and restaurant staff were all brilliant but the porter (Ben) went beyond service. As well as helping me with bags, getting me ice, slippers, dressing gown and other such items, when i asked where i could go to get some ibuprofen (having dropped my last ones during the day) he went out to the local shop and got some for me (not being melodramatic here but this saved my life!!! - OK maybe a bit melodramatic!).

The hotel itself is fine, a good standard business hotel with the quality of fixtures, fittings and amenities you would expect but the service made the stay for me and I would not hesitate to go again, or to any Hotel in the same group.

Great modern room with good shower and good facilities. You need a car to stay here but as a base for the surrounding area it's great. Breakfast ok- bar area very nice. Decent value when booked using a travel consolidator and for a weekend stay. I believe this is a conference centre Monday to Friday.

“Enjoyable stay (shame about the breakfast)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Stayed on a Saturday evening. Two rooms. We were visiting Swindon to see relatives. This was the only Hotel I could find that accepted dogs and got a great non refundable rate on Booking.com including breakfast. I rang to ensure the pool was open and to enquire about a cot as the booking confirmation said none were provided. The hotel confirmed a cot would be supplied at an additional fee of £10, which they never charged. (Hope the Manager is not reading this!!) They also state that only guests 18 and over can use the leisure facilities but we went to the pool anyway with our 1 year old granddaughter and discovered on weekends between 2 and 5 kids are allowed. We also went the following morning at 8 am and no one complained.

As it is primarily a business hotel I was concerned what food would be available in the evening as other reviews complained about a limited choice. I don’t know if we were lucky but the hotel was fairly busy, and also a wedding reception was on, so a full autumn/winter menu was offered.

Our thoughts:

ROOMS – Clean, modern and offering all you would need for a stop over except for the size of the bed. Should have asked for a twin as the double was a small queen.

FOOD – Dinner was pleasant with an adequate choice. Had to have the Confit Duck leg taken off the bill as chef had tried to short cut the confit process and it was not tender enough. Sea Bream on Parsnip puree was lovely as were all the starters. Not a great Sticky Toffee pud. Far too large and not enough sauce. All round a good evening.

Breakfast was a disaster. Everyone arrived around 9 and descended on the buffet like a swarm of locusts picking it clean as was their right. Unfortunately no one had told the chef it was going to be busy and it took 30 minutes to get replenishments out. And even then not everything was replaced. The restaurant has two buffet lanes but only one was in use, which was inexcusable with a full restaurant. What should have been a pleasant start to a Sunday morning turned into a frustrating episode with guests frantically pouncing on anything that came out of the kitchen just to get some food even if they really wanted it or not. Also only one very tired toast machine that took three goes to get anything more than warm bread. A definite case of poor management bearing in mind the hotel knew how many residents they had.

STAFF – No complaints. Everyone I met was pleasant and efficient (breakfast aside) and the dogs were welcomed with a smile, which was nice as often you are made to feel uncomfortable. Only small matter was they had not deducted my returned duck from the bill though it was quickly rectified.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay and we will return.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay at Alexandra and I am pleased that on the whole you had an enjoyable and relaxing time with us.

I am sorry that the breakfast service was extremely busy when you came to the restaurant and that the food was not being replenished quickly enough, a point that has already been addressed and rectified by my Food and Beverage Manager.

I'm pleased that you had the opportunity to use the leisure facilities with your grand daughter. We do stipulate specific times for children to ensure that our leisure members are not disrupted by children in the pool, but obviously as the pool must have been fairly empty, I am happy that the leisure team remained flexible.

I do hope that you will be returning to Alexandra House again soon.

“Excellent conference centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

I spent 2 days I n this hotel for a corporate event. The hotel was fully booked and as I was one of the last ones of my group to arrive I was upgraded with an executive room. The hotel is in a lovely setting outside Swindon. The conference service are excellent, meals were included so I cannot comment on prices. My room has a courtesy bottle of wine and chocolates.
The room has a desk with free wifi connection and the car park is also free. Unfortunately my room was by the car park and therefore a bit noisy with car coming in and out.

All in all was a lovely stay and one of the best conference centres in the south.
