“Good stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We selected this property based on tripadvisor members' comments, and I must say everything is spot on. Rooms are comfortable, the restaurant has great food with no fuss, and the conservatory looks out at a very nice back garden. The staff was very helpful and efficient. Not particularly difficult to find once exited M4, but you get the feeling of being miles away from the nearest town. It was a great alternative from staying in Swindon or Reading.

“Lovely atmosphere, views, food and wine!”

I had booked on recommendation of a friend, and as it was my partner's birthday Sunday lunch as a surprise for him and his family, I was, understandably, nervous. We were greeted by Francis the owner, who was charming and attentive. Our drinks order was taken and we were left in peace to wish my partner a happy birthday. Once seated, the food was of a very good quality, beautifully presented and served. It was very reasonably priced and we enjoyed it very much. So much so, that we have now booked for early January!

“It has maintained it's quality, charm and relaxed chararcter for over 6 years - now it has it's own wine too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We've been coming here for a drink or coffee for years now, as it's an ideal end of journey point for nearby family. It always feels and looks good. Set in the Cotswold countryside, you'd never guess you were only a few miles away from busy Swindon. The welcome sign for us is to see the wooden logs stacked high in the entrance way in autumn and winter, to make a roaring log fire within. The service is always first class from uniformed staff. We have not eaten or stayed here ourselves, but talking to friends & relatives in the area who have, it is very highly regarded, and the price is worth it. Our favourite thing about this wonderful hotel is the gardens. Do take a walk around them. You'll find huge chess pieces and Dragonflies around the pond and paving area in summer. We were here about 6 years ago when they planted the first of their vines. They have hundreds now, and on our last visit in November 2011, they showed us some of the first bottles of their own wine, made from their own grapes. How good is that ! This hotel is not easy to find, but it's well worth looking for.

“A quiet backwater ....... peace and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Pear Tree hotel on a number of occasion's
And every time I have had a fantastic meal and a quiet and comfortable nights sleep.
The hotel is set on the edge of the village of Purton, 3 miles from Swindon and on the
Border of the Cotswolds. Don't expect a lively hotel ,the pave is very slow and relaxed.
The rooms are large ,some a little tired and in need of a refurb, but still provide Ll that you
Need for a great nights sleep. The main ttrCtion is the service, peace And quiet, and the food.
Check out the pride of Britain web site for special offers. Top tip for a
Great e d for the day..... after your evening meal, instead of coffee ask for a
Pot of hot chocolate and enjoy in the library. A top quality dog friendly hotel
Wiggins fashion service and great food

Room Tip: Walk around the grounds . Have a boy chocolate after diner .

“Lovely hotel, food and hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Had a two night break with our dog at the Pear Tree and had a thoroughly positive experience, we were made to feel really welcome and our dog was given lots of attention and a bag of treats. The chef was inventive in meeting my dietary requirements and provided two 4 course meals which looked and tasted as good as the other choices on the menu, really very well done!

An excellent location for a trip to the cotswolds, we were worried that a weekday holiday here might be full of business trips but it genuinely felt like a holiday location.

Highly recommended
