I have recently returned from a 5 day stay at the above hotel on a coach tour with David Urquhart Holidays. It was obvious from the beginning, this hotel caters primarily for the Business Traveller/Meeting Place/Course Centre in other words a Commerial Hotel. On the up side of this trip, the bedrooms were immaculate, towels changed everyday, comfortable bed and the fact that if you had forgotten for example your toothbrush, they would provide one with their comliments- Going the extra mile. However, when it came to eating arrangements, it was sheer chaos. There were only 17 passengers on my coach , plus another coach which appeared to be almost full. With the added Business clients/ N/Power course Group, the evening meal on the first night was a joke. The restaurant was not big enough to take us all even though we had been told what time we were to eat. and the buffet style catering left a lot to be desired. We were told we were not to touch the salad bar as that was for the N/Power Group, there was no choice of starter and thank god for the microwave oven which I had to use to re-heat my Lasagne! Breakfast was no better, hot cooked breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, beans and overcooked bacon. Whilst there were other things to eat they seemed to run out of things very quickly. A guest asked if he could have a fried egg but was told it wasn't on the menu even though other guests not on the coach could have what they wanted. On the second night, the starter was prawn cocktail, which one of the passengers was allergic to shellfish, when she told the staff, it was a case of 'tough'. This was enough for me needless to say I ate out on one night and got a 'take away' on the last night which I used the microwave to heat up! Bearing in mind that this hotel does allow takeaways to be delivered, what does it think of their Chef??. When we complained to the hotel manager, he told us the usual chef was on holiday and the current chef was from an agency. This is no excuse to provide bad quality food which had already been paid for through the holiday. Another guest asked the Manager why did he not get more staff in to cope with the restaurant/bar, his reply was that he had enough staff but the hotel was too full!!! I would not recommewnd this hotel to anyone who is on a holiday in this area although an overnight stay would be suitable as a stop-over
Room Tip: Ask for a room not overlooking the M4
