My husband and I spent one extremely comfortable night at Thornhill Lodge in mid-October, just after we arrived in the UK from the US. We were greeted warmly and very much appreciated receiving incredibly helpful information that enabled us to make the most of our one day in Derby. We could not have asked for a better place to ease our jet lag and begin our 3-week vacation. From the wonderfully comfortable bed to the sumptuous breakfast, we were completely satisfied with our stay. Thanks, Rea, for making this such a memorable and enjoyable beginning to our vacation.

Hi we stayed here for one night at half term 2011. The room was immaculate, clean, cosy & the breakfast was plentiful & enjoyable.
Although the en-suite included a beautiful bath, we were non-plussed that there was no shower facilities included (we stayed in the French room) - the website does not make this apparent!
Price was reasonable considering the heating is on 24/7!

My husband and I stayed at the Thornhill Lodge for one night at the end of September. Our room was very spacious, beautifully furnished and decorated, immaculately clean, had two thick, cozy bathrobes, warm towels, and there were freshly made yummy scones waiting for us upon arrival. Across the hall from our room was a very well-stocked kitchen where we could make snacks or help ourselves to drinks from the fridge. A good selection of books (many about the Derbyshire area and its history), magazines and dvds was available. Breakfast was superb and included freshly ground, divine coffee, a full hot breakfast and a selection of fresh fruit, granola,yogurt, and many delicious home made preserves. Rea and Geoff were very helpful hosts and our only regret was that our stay was so short. We cannot recommend the Thornhill Lodge too highly and we are very much looking forward to our next opportunity to stay there...definitely for more than just one night!

My first impresssion of the proprietor and the guest house was extremely favourable, helpful proprietor, rooms very clean, breakfast very tasty. However, sadly we discovered that we had unfortunately spilt a drop of wine on a chair and cushion which left a stain. Clearly this was not intentionally and we were very apologetic. We have offered to pay the excess in any accidental damage insurance claim, but it would appear that the proprietor seems intent on pursuing us for the total costs? This leaves me very confused at to the alleged high customer standards that Thornhill boasts. My advice would be to just be very careful not to cause any accidental damage.
