My first impresssion of the proprietor and the guest house was extremely favourable, helpful proprietor, rooms very clean, breakfast very tasty. However, sadly we discovered that we had unfortunately spilt a drop of wine on a chair and cushion which left a stain. Clearly this was not intentionally and we were very apologetic. We have offered to pay the excess in any accidental damage insurance claim, but it would appear that the proprietor seems intent on pursuing us for the total costs? This leaves me very confused at to the alleged high customer standards that Thornhill boasts. My advice would be to just be very careful not to cause any accidental damage.

The rooms here are extremely spacious with a huge TV. I loved the kitchen. It would be so easy to fix yourself a bite to eat if you were staying for a few days instead of having to eat out all the time. There was a pub in very short walking distance with an extensive menu if you did want something close by for dinner.

The rooms are spacious, luxurious and tastefully decorated with wonderful finishing touches. As on previous visits, the room was spotlessly clean and had everything we wanted - a comfy bed, radio alarm clock, hairdryer, bathrobes, fluffy towels, toiletries and full tea/coffee making facilities and even homemade rock cakes on our arrival. There was also a good TV and DVD player. In addition to an excellent traditional cooked breakfast there is a good variety of other options - including freshly prepared fruit salad, yoghurts, cereals and toast with homemade preserves.

Thornhill Lodge is in a nice quiet residential location and is only approx 1 mile from Derby city centre.

Rea and Geoff are great hosts and provide such good service. We love it here and would highly recommend it. We will be returning :-)

We decided to break our journey to and from our holiday in the Lake District. Having stayed at Thornhill Lodge previously we booked two nights and stayed on 24th June and 2nd July respectively. On each stay we were allocated a different room. The first at the front of the house and the second at the rear. Both rooms were exceptionally clean, beautifully decorated, well furnished and each fully provided with towels, dressing gowns, face flannels, toiletries, shampoo etc. To complete the welcome a very tasty homemade rockcake is provided with the usual coffee and tea. The beds are very comfortable! A guest kitchen/diner is on the first floor fitted with cooker, microwave etc. if one decides to eat in rather than go out to the local pubs. Breakfast is an experience! You can start with fresh fruit salad if you wish. The cooked breakfast is great. Jut ask and you can have scrambled egg on toast or porridge. You host, Rhea, goes out of her way to ensure that your stay is the best experience ever. Stay here again? Yes!! Without reservation - if you know what I mean!!
