“Friendly staff improved our stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Nice, hotel for people on a budget.Drinks at the bar expensive if you can call it a bar! The bar/eating area was very uninviting more suited for a McDonalds takeaway than an hotel!
Rooms were at a reasonable standard, but someone should tell the cleaner to vacuum the skirting areas, which were black with dust.I do protest to having to pay for WI-FI at approx £5 per hour,! rip off Britain again! for in America DAYS Hotels provide it free!
The big plus were the friendly staff who did their up most to help us, Alex and Sophia are a credit to the business and I thank them for their help during our stay.

Thank you for your recent review. I am pleased to advise that we have just invested in the redecoration of our public areas including the bar and restaurant. We also plan to have new wall hangings and light fittings in our restaurant to improve the look and feel which I am sure when complete will make the whole area more appealing and inviting, I am hoping that you may choose to stay here soon so that you can experience the improvements which have been made. I appreciate you bringing the skirting boards to my attention and I shall address this immediately with our housekeeping partners . We do pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service . I am pleased to hear that you found Alex and Sophia helpful and I will pass on your comments. Thank you once again.

“weekend away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

i booked 6 rooms last minute at a great price over the weekend when i arrived at the hotel to collect the room keys there was a bit of a mix up with the price of the booking once this was rectified the staff were superb very helpful, polite and friendly especially maria, jenny, nicole and silvia the chef who always provided a great breakfast the rooms were well worth the money paid for them the location of the hotel is a bit tricky to find but once we got our bearings we were able to walk to the town centre within 10mins any problems we had maria and jenny were extremely helpful even with providing us with cabs when we needed myself and 5 other guests would stay there again

“practical- excellent beds-a tad isolated-busy road but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Just returned from a long weekend away.
On the whole the Hotel was fine ,not exceptional but ok for a budget break.
Massive comfy bed always a bonus, clean well presented bathroom but some suspicious stains on the beige carpet which were avoided.
Pleasant enough view at the back over the cricket ground but dont be misslead into thinking, aint that quaint ,as it really isnt and all you actually see is a bit of grass and the main stand.
Location of the hotel is on a busy road but nice to see an Aston Martin and Mini dealership across the road to help you sleep dreamily!!!.
Saw comments made over the road and access my advice would be to use the rear entrance(pardon)via Derby Cricket Ground rather than the detour for 1 mile past the hotel to the roundabout and back again.
Day staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful, the guy on the nightshift wouldnt know a smile if it hit him in the face and even Dick Turpin would have the good grace to smile when asking for £6 for a glass of wine ,this was obviously not in his repetoirre(sic) of skills.
As for Derby itself great place, great friendly people ,brilliant mix of old and new,Westfield shop till u drop and the old town /Cathedral quarter cultered ,relaxed and chav free.
The water front development also looks 1st class and a weekend becons when it gets warmer.

Room Tip: Rear of the hotel overlooking the cricket ground

Thank you for your recent review . I am pleased to hear that you found our large beds comfortable on your recent visit. Naturally we have a cleaning programme in place for carpet cleaning and will ensure this room is a priority. When you have the opportunity to stay at the hotel again in summer the view overlooking the Derby County Cricket ground is most valuable, particularly on match days. I agree that the rear entrance is better for access and will be sure to advise this to all future guests. I am pleased to hear that you found our day staff friendly and helpful and I am sure that when you choose to stay here again our night porters will be able to raise a smile. Derby is a great place to visit and we are certainly within easy reach of the Westfield shopping centre and many other areas of interest you may wish to visit whilst staying in Derby. I trust we will see you again soon.

“Blink and you'll miss it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Finding this hotel first time was a miss as my Sat Nav didn't pick it up. The hotel itself was great, we had a few issues getting into our room but this was quickly resolved and we was given a different room with a different key. The room was very cold to begin with, but heated up after an hour or so. The food is well presented and tasted great and the staff are all friendly who will help you out where they can. We couldn't found any issues other than the room being cold, we enjoyed our stay and the prices we paid for everything, were spot on.

Room Tip: Plan your visit in advance.

Thank you for your recent review. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that my colleagues were able to resolve the issue of getting into your room quickly. The falling temperatures of late have made our rooms rather cold therefore we are turning the heating on prior to arrival to ensure the room is more comfortable upon entry when possible. I am pleased that you enjoyed your dining experience and I will pass on your comments to the team who I know will be pleased. I do hope that next time you stay you’ll be able to enjoy the Virgin Active leisure complex which is situated right next door to the hotel. The complex boasts state of the art gym equipment, a newly refurbished spa, various classes and a swimming pool with a separate pool for the children which I have to say has some great slides and features which from experience with my child is most enjoyable. We offer a reduced price day pass for guests so that you can really make the most of it and the best possible price. I trust we will see you again soon.
