“Warm, clean, and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

The hotel was very pleasantly furnished and warm. It is conveniently located a short walk from both the railway station and city centre. There is free parking, some of it covered. The free wifi works well and the room had a large flat-screen TV. The lift is a bit slow but functional. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and I would use the Hallmark Inn again.

“Cheap, comfortable & near the train station”

This was a last minute booking for one night in Derby.
The hotel is clean with comfortable spacious double rooms and en suite bathroom. Toiletries, towels, linen, tea & coffee etc provided.
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, warm and quiet.
Approx 500m from the train station and 10 mins walk into city centre where there are many restaurants, shops, clubs, bars etc.
Free parking at the hotel.
We didn't use the restaurant so I can't comment on that but there are several restaurants within metres of the hotel.
Lift available and ice machines on each floor.

Room Tip: Double rooms are spacious.

We recently stayed at the Hallmark Inn.Was bit confused at first because they hotel has changed name.We were made to feel welcome when we entered the hotel and the reception staff were very pleasant. The room was to our liking, very clean and tidy.Breakfast was excellent it was good to see a variety of different foods for breakfast. The chef was very pleasant and has a great personality. It was nice to see him actually talking to the guests. He made the best poached egg I have ever had, although next time I stay I will bring him a joke book.I definitely recommend the hotel.Hope the staff have a great christmas.Micheal

“Comfortable Stop Over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

I recently stoped at this hotel and found it to be Clean and well presented. The staff were freindly and very helpfull. The Restuarant is located along side the main hotel and is of Italian theme providing a good selection of meals on its menu at very reasonable prices. The only thing I felt which let it down was the Hotel Bar. Staff have to split their time between reception and the bar, which often leaves you unattended. If this could be addressed it would make for a 5 star stopover.
The Hotel has recently changed its name to the Hallmark Inn, not to be confused with another hotel close by with a similar name.

Room Tip: Try and get a room to the rear of the hotel. There is free car parking on site for 90 cars.

“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Firstly, the European has now changed hands and is a Hallmark hotel now, it changed a few days before our stay so created a little confusion in where we were travelling to!

My sister, myself and our partners stayed here last weekend for a family wedding. The staff were very welcoming on entering and it is very close to the train station and only a short walk to the town centre. The rooms were fine, if a little outdated, and the breakfast in the morning was very good.

We were under the impression that we had a dinner, bed and breakfast package, however when it came to dinner we were told that because they don't have room in their hotel, we would have to go to their sister hotel for our meal. This wasn't a problem as it's only a two minute walk away. Upon arriving however, we were told that dinner is not included in the package, only tapas. Looking at the tapas it seemed there were only a few slices of bread and ham - definitely not an evening meal's worth! Upon speaking to the manager, we were offered a 20% discount on the meals in the restaurant instead. We took this and ordered.

The service was great, particularly two waitresses, one named Kerry, and another I didn't catch the name of, but had a bob and glasses. They were both cheerful and friendly. The food however we all felt was overpriced for what it was. The steaks were burnt, portions were not massive and - especially as we believed it was in the price - we were very disappointed by the meals.

This could be a fine place to stay if they made things a little clearer; offer proper dinner or state that it is a snack when booking.

Compared to other hotels I have stayed in around the area this hotel is not good value for money. The staff were brilliant but most other things could be improved to make this a good hotel.

Room Tip: Check into the other hallmark, from where we ate dinner it looked a lot grander!

Thanks for your review, the package you booked included a bar meal not a restaurant dinner, I do apologies for the confusion this caused.
