“OK for City Centre Overnight Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

The Stuart is not a bad hotel.

The rooms may be quite cramped and are getting a bit shabby. The bathroom door would not open fully as it banged into the sink! Also I saw a weavil running around the bathroom which was not expected. I had to let the shower run for a few minutes before it warmed up.

That said, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable and the breakfast was cooked to order. There is free high speed WiFi throughout the hotel.

The best thing about the hotel are the staff. They are friendly, courtious and helpful.

If you stay here you should eat in Anoki which is an Indian restaraunt a few doors down. The staff are excellent and the food is really good. It was recommended to us by quite a few locals and it did not disapoint.

Avoid room 314, it is directly under water tanks and these can be noisy through the night.

Room Tip: Avoid 314 and others near it, they are below water tanks which can be noisy through the night.

“90th Birthday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

A cold and wintery w/e in Derby is made all the more pleasant when, on arrival at the Stuart, we are greeted with a courteous and friendly welcome. But, oh dear! Less than 5 minutes later we are back in reception asking, nay insisting we change rooms as our room is positively cold! Not only is the central heating not on, but the radiators do not work. We are quickly given an alternative ensuite room - complete with fully functioning radiator in the bedroom - but the ensuite is so small there is no room for a radiator. Room itself is adequate for 1 night but does
need a lick of paint, new lights/shades and new carpet and curtains. Breakfast the following morning was hearty with good choice of options, courteous and efficient staff...just a pity about the sub zero temperature in the dining room itself which took the edge off the meal. We've stayed at the Stuart a couple of times prior to this and had no complaints, but after this experience I'm not sure we'lll be back - at least not until the summer.

Room Tip: If staying Oct-March make certain all radiators in room are working.

“Well situated hotel with cosy rooms at affordable prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I read some of the reviews on this page (some appeared to be personal attacks on the staff which seem really inappropriate) the night before staying at the stuart and they filled me with dread. I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The staff were friendly, our room was clean and cosy and the breakfast was delicious (with a mixture of buffet offerings and cooked breakfasts on offer). Furthermore, the prices are incredibly reasonable. We stayed on a Saturday evening and there was no noise disturbance. It also helped that the hotel had a large car park available to guests and is also located 100 yards from Westfield shopping centre. I have never written a review on this site before but felt I had to in order to defend what is a lovely hotel. We will definitely be returning.

“Family party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We had a 60th birthday party at The Stuart Hotel and it was FANTASTIC! The service, food, cost and resident DJ was great! Couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable evening! Would definatly recommend The Stuart Hotel to anyone wanting to hold a function. We didn't use any of the bedrooms as we don't live far away but what we saw of the hotel we were impressed with. Thank you very much!!!
