“Comfortable, Clean, Enjoyable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Have regularly visited this property as it is one of my firm's chosen hotels in Gloucester. Although the hotel isn't much to look at from the outside, the inside of the hotel has a modern, contemporary feel. The rooms (although a little dark, as the walls aren't a light shade), are very comfortable - good sized table for working, nice side table and chairs for sitting.

The bed is king sized and extremely comfortable for sleeping in - it is suitably warm in the winter and I've not had a bad night's sleep there. It isn't too soft, nor hard, and have no complaints on it. Again, the bathroom is very good: bright and light, with a good sized sink and a shower with proper pressure.

The breakfast is good - nice amount of choice, good quality coffee (a must on business) and plenty of options. The only area where the hotel does let itself down in, is the dinner menu - whilst the standard is very high (for which it must be commended), the choice on the menu does feel somewhat limited, and after a few stays it does feel ever more limited.

Don't let that last negative count against the place - very happy with it and would stay there many times again.

Room Tip: If you want to access the gym, you'll need to go outdoors, so wrap up accordingly, and try and a...

Thank you for your regular business to our hotel and your comments, and I am glad we make you feel at home and want to return. Good point re the menu and I shall discuss with the Chef about extending our specials offering to give some variety to our regulars. The new menu has actually just gone in place last month so hopefully a few new items to go at for a while.

Kind regards

Richard

“Spa Day”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

SHOCKING DAY!

I booked a spa day at this hotel as a gift for my cousin. It was shockingly awful.
Our 'spa day' included, cold pool area, dirty complimentary towels, hair in the; sauna, steam room and changing area, as well as children running around!
The only element of cleanliness was when we observed a member of staff in the pool with cleaning fluid and a brush, scrubbing the tiles and rinsing the dirty brush in the pool! Disgusting.
The deco was dreadful, half renovated areas, for example a lovely tiled basin area in the ladies, combined with dirty floor tiles which looked like they belonged in the outdated local public swimming pool.
In addition our spa treatments were in a cold room as 'we were the first customers of the day so it wasn't warm yet!'
When we went for our afternoon tea the bar manager was heard swearing loudly at the staff.
This hotel's 'spa' resembled that of a public swimming pool desperately needing updating and cleaning. We had to go home after 3 hours as we felt so dirty we needed to have a shower. Not what one expects from a spa day.

The only redeeming aspect of this day was that we got a full refund. However, I don't want others to hope for a nice spa day at this hotel only to be disappointed.

Dear Kirsty L,

I am sorry your Spa Day did not match your expectations, and your comments where applicable have been addressed. I feel your comments are not reflective on the overall service we offer, and certainly on the general upkeep of our leisure club, as is relected in previous TA comments, however I am sorry on the day in question we let you down.

kind regards

“Fantastic weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We decided to go away for a few days with our youngest son (aged 5) and found this hotel online. It was a last minute decision and didn't know if there would be any rooms available, however on contacting the hotel, they were very helpful. Although we got lost on the way, a phone call to the Receptionist, who soon put us back on track. On arrival we were directed to our room, which was lovely and spacious, with our son taking charge of operating the card either entering or leaving the room. After emptying suitcases we went straight for a swim, where I split my time between the pool, sauna and steam room. After our dip we ate in the restaurant, compliments to the chefs. And basically thats how the weekend panned out. Breakfast was lovely with our son having 3 courses, cereal, poached egg on toast followed by a croissant, oh and a cup of tea. Saturday, visited Gloucester town, about a 10 minute drive, but easy to find and numerous car parks to choose from. City Centre was very nice, plenty of shops, nice old arcades and bargains to be had in the January sales. Didn't spend to long in town as we wanted to get back to the pool. Had our evening meal, although chose from the bar menu, where I decided to opt for the tapas selection, which at £4.75 was extremely good value. My wife had nachos and my son had the burger. Thank you to Carolyn, Kince, Hannah, Rachel, Mark (at the pool)...and to any others we've missed who were working that weekend

“Wonderful Christmas stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I agree entirely with everything that Lucy B has said. On arrival we found in our rooms a box of biscuits and a half bottle of wine as well as a list of the local church services. The break started with afternoon tea and chocolate decorating. This was followed by a wonderful meal in the evening. There were loads of very cheerful staff on duty at all times and nothing was too much trouble. On return from midnight mass (church within walking distance) the chef made us mulled wine to go with our mince pices. A nice touch was nuts and satsumas being available in the bar at all times. There was Bucks Fizz at breakfast on Christmas Day and it was nice to able to choose what time to go into lunch. In the afternoon there were brand new board games and cards to play with in the lounge. In the evening there was a buffet and on Boxing Day brunch was served. A surprise in the afternoon was a reading of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol by a local actor. The evening included a gala dinner in one of the function rooms with live entertainment. It was nice that they had only booked the number of bedrooms to match the number of tables in the restaurant, this meant that the hotel was not too busy. The jacuzzi, swimming pool (large enough to actually swim in) and sauna were great too - it would have been nice if the opening times had been slightly longer and if there could be a spindryer for swimming costumes in the changing rooms. The squash court and gym were well used whilst I was there. I really hope they will offer the same package again next year (with a few more coat hangars in the bedroom). Congratulations to Richard and his team for a wonderful stay.

“Christmas Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This is one of the best hotels we've stayed in! We booked a christmas package back in the summer, and from the moment we arrived we were looked after by the staff (it was nice & refreshing to see a manager actually meeting & greeting guests and finding the time to talk to them).

The food was lovely 5 star. The swimming pool, hot tub and sauna completed it for us.
Hopefully the hotel will offer the same package next christmas
