“Wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

person found this review helpful

I have visited The Wellington a couple of times over the last couple of years and, I'm glad to say, it seems to be getting better and better.
Admittedly the food is quite expensive, but blimey, it is good!

The only criticism I can think of is that I would like to see a slightly larger wine list.

I also stayed the night this time (I haven't before) and what a lovely room.
If you are staying - ask for room 7 (windows on two sides and a little balcony).

Room Tip: Ring the hotel directly - you'll get a better deal than on line.

“A lovely night away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Went away for one evening for my boyfriends birthday. It was a lovely old pub, lovely big fire etc. Staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. View from our room was really pretty. Had a lovely night.

“Ready for our 3rd Return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We've stayed overnight twice, enjoyed dinner and lunch on both occasions (following a previous visit for lunch!)

Room Tip: Only a few rooms, nothing to differentiate other than some upstairs and some on ground floor

“Enjoyable stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We stayed here for one night on the 1st October for a family wedding in Harrogate. Positive aspects of our stay: staff very friendly, drinks reasonably priced, really tasty breakfast, nice homely feel, beautiful views. Negatives: Beds did seem quite hard, decor is a bit tired. Overall we enjoyed our stay (even my extremely fussy mother who wants to go back for a full weekend!). We were in a twin room and a double would have been nice although most of the rooms did seem to be a twin. I am very fussy about cleanliness and I would say this place was ok for this. The tired decor seemed to add to my impression that it could have been cleaner. Having said that this place has loads of potential and I think with a bit of a refurb this could be an excellent place to have a short break in the yorkshire dales. For the price we paid it was reasonable. I would happily stay here again, and if they redecorated and got some more comfortable beds I would be back like a shot and be likely to pay more!

Room Tip: My brother somehow got a bigger room with a sofa but it did overlook the car park. If big rooms are...

“Okay stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

My wife and I stayed overnight 1st October 2011 in groundfloor room 3. This is a twin room with en suite bath/shower. The room was clean , light and airy . The two single beds were not very comfortable. It was let down by the bathroom which was clean but tired and in need to some re-furbishment. It is kitted out for disabled use with a very high toilet and grab rails evrywhere. The shower above the bath would only provide very hot water, despite all attempts to adjust it. In addition , when I tried to adjust the shower head height by sliding it up the bracket, it wouldn't stay there and slid back down again. Not good it you are tall !
We had booked an evening meal for 8pm and were seated by that time. No one took our order until 8.20pm when we were told there would be a wait of about 45 mins. To be fair it was Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. Our food arrived at 9pm and was very nice ( apart from goats cheese on the ploughman's ! )
Breakfast the next morning was okay although the coffee was very strong and the tomatoes on the full English were sour.

Room Tip: Try to get an upsairs room
