“superb hotel, highly recommend it, we can't wait to return.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed at the Bijou for my husbands birthday. It was a last minute thing, I had looked at so many options in Harrogate so I don't know how I finally decided on the Bijou, but I'm so glad I did. Don't look at anything else, book here. The Bijou has everything you could possible want, from the lovely lounge to jelly babies with luxury products in your room . The breakfast is probably one of the best I've had, the choice is excellent and I just can't wait to return, Thank you

“superb hotel with warm welcoming atmosphere”

I stayed at the Bijou whilst working in the Harrogate area leading upto christmas. Having stayed in some very over priced hotels in the Harrogate area I can honestly say that this hotel was a gem. Very reasonably priced, very comfortable rooms and a great atmosphere. The hotel staff could not help me enough, which working unsociable hours is a refreshing change, the breakfasts were very good also. it is perfectly situated 10 mins walk from the city centre attractions, has free wifi in most rooms, having experienced 2 the signal is weaker the further you are from the ground floor, but I had no problems. They offer access to the Fitness centre at the local Barcelo hotel for £5 for the gym or pool or £10 for both. I suppose if i was to find any fault it would be these facilities really have seen better days, although not been part of the actual Bijou hotel is no reflection of their service or my experience of my stay there at all. If I was to return to Harrogate for work I would definately stay here again and not give my money to the big chains who in my opinion offer an inferior service to the Bijou and are not as comfortable.

Room Tip: room 5 is very good

“A Businesslike B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My wife and I disagreed about the Bijou [not an uncommon event!]. I felt it was rather unfriendly [my wife didnt!] and too businesslike and lacked any kind of homely atmosphere. We stayed in the coaching annex and the room was adequate though badly in need of smartening up. Some of the furniture had been amateurishly painted white – this was streaked, uneven and had the pine knots leaking through. The room was not quite big enough for the bed. Furnishings were in the modern style.
It was warm and quiet however and the car was parked off the road. Location is good - an easy walk into the centre of Harrogate
Breakfast was fine though unmemorable and we were in a hurry to leave.

In response to this review I would like to point that the furniture in the Coach house was not painted by an amateur, it was purchased this way - it is solid pine sprayed lightly in white to give a distressed finish and show the natural knots of the wood.

“Classy little getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I had booked one night at The Bijou for my other half's birthday and we were not disappointed. Located a short walk from the centre of Harrogate (and very convenient for the Royal Hall etc.) this converted Victorian house has ample parking for the guests staying (albeit a little tight getting out onto the main road again). Upon arrival we were met by the owner and as we were a little earlier than planned she was happy to allow us to leave the car and for us to explore the town before checking in later. When we did check in it was obvious from the décor in the reception rooms that the B&B had been very tastefully decorated and the lounge was incredibly inviting with low sofas and a log fire burning away. Once we had the key to our room we climbed the couple flights of stairs to the top floor; our room (Room 5) was wonderful and decorated to a high modern standard, it felt like the room had been plucked straight from a showroom or a catalogue. The suite was plenty big enough and an en-suite large enough to swing a cat! Skip forward to the next morning and breakfast was served in a dining room behind reception, the portions weren’t huge but I hadn’t expected so given the style of hotel, it was however still more than enough for us with a buffet style cereal and fruit bar and hot food cooked to order. We both had full English but I what I was impressed with was another couple there had specific requirements which were met without fuss. My only criticism, if you can call it that, was that our room was too hot which to cool it down we had a window open; this in turn brought in the noise of the main road outside. Quite rightly the radiators had been turned on to give a warm welcome however being the top room in a Victorian building it took the heat from downstairs anyway. Still overall we were very impressed and would definitely stay there again!!
