Bathroom: We didn't have constant hot water (on and off both morning and evening - had to keep jumping in and out of shower as temperature changed from hot to very very cold. I persevered (getting in and out) my partner gave up on the idea of showering at all! The bathroom had a strange smell. Lovely molton brown goodies, nice bathrobes, great quality towels, a real hairdryer.
Drinks: kettle lead didn't reach the plug from the tray table (had to brew up on the floor). There is no mini bar. We had a Coffeemaker and fresh coffee in room and full size cups (this is a great idea).
Food: breakfast was great! Good choice, all made to order, good sized portions! Possibly the best hotel breakfast I have had (and I have stayed in lots of hotels). Resturant closed other than for breakfast.
Decor: communal areas were beautiful but the rooms are not as appears in the pictures (or at least ours wasn't). The wall paper was peeling and lumpy. The paint was chipped. The furniture was worn (chipped paint). The curtains and blinds were stained from damp. The bedside lampshades were very wonky (not sure if they fitted bases properly)
Other: communal areas were cold with lots of plug in heaters - couldn't take coat off in bar! As someone that spent my student years as a chambermaid I would say it could be much cleaner - the inside of the windows must not have been cleaned for months.
Location: good only a short walk from centre.
Staff: friendly and helpful.
Overall - a hotel without hot water, adequate heating and a restaurant should not have four stars.
