This has obviously been a very grand hotel in it's day with it's high ceilings and large dining room and bar areas. When we arrived there was a mix up with the booking as we were part of a group staying and some were staying one night and others for two nights but this was quickly resolved with a smile by the pleasant and efficient reception staff, infact we found all the staff we came in contact with very pleasant. Our room which was on the third floor was bright and very clean and also very warm, the bed was very comfortable and we both slept very well. When we had settled into the room we both decided that we would try the swimming pool which was of a decent size and not overly full which meant we got some exercise before going out for an evening meal.The breakfast is buffet style and of a very good quality we certainly had our fill which set us up for a good walk around town.All in all we found our stay at the barcelo very good and would reccomend it to anyone wanting to stay in Harrogate and as a bonus it is only a short walk from the town centre

Recently stayed at The Majestic, Barcelo Hotel in Harrogate.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent during our conference dinner, although the breakfast was average, and pricey (the children's breakfast I noted is also £6.50 aged 4+).

As this was a business trip I visited several colleagues rooms and noted that I drew the short straw. Some of the rooms have obviously been modernised and are of the standard you would expect from such a hotel. Mine however, was not. With a bed parallel to a window where the curtains started a foot away from the wall even in the winter I was woken up by lights and the morning sun.

I would recommend this hotel, if you get a good deal, but don't settle for an older room, you really will miss out on the luxury.

The Majestic is a lovely Victorian Hotel close to Town Centre. The staff were all very pleasant, the meals nice, and the rooms were quiet, and to a good specification. Just a couple of grumbles, the hot water could have been hotter, and the high spec bath and sink fittings were a bit difficult for my elderly in laws to figure out. Whats wrong with a simple seperate hot & cold tap and a bath plug that simply fits into the hole!!! Otherwise excellent.

There were many differing reviews, but I found my brief stay very satisfying. Check in was late but I was dealt with very politely and felt appreciated. Although it was gone midnight I was asked if I had eaten, which I thought was a nice touch. Room was big, well appointed. It was freezing as the heat had been turned off, but it didn't take long to heat up, and by then I was under the covers, in a very comfortable bed. Swimming pool is clean and a reasonable size, gym too seemed well equipped. Breakfast seemed plentiful, if a little busy, (it was a weekend though). car park is paid separately which is a little irritating but it was only £3.50. Internet is wired and about £7 for stay but I didn't connect so cannot comment on quality. A stones throw from the International Centre and a good alternative to the blandness of the Holiday Inn.
