“Would not touch it with a barge pole!”

A group of five couples booked rooms months ago. Two days before arrival the hotel was phoned and they said we could book in from 12.30. When we arrived they no record of our booking and no rooms! Their excuse was that their computer system had crashed two months ago! They did not seem bothered and just gave us the phone number of The Ramada Hotel who were very helpful.

“In need of TLC and noisy!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

Stayed here one night, we are so pleased it was not more!
First impressions when we arrived almost made us turn round and leave, no receptionist and we had to ring the bell twice then one eventually appeared, and at first he said there was no record of our booking. Public areas are in urgent need of decoration, reception, stairs, dining room etc all tatty. The room we were given was clean and well decorated but the bathroom needed some attention, taps dripping and toilet would not flush correctly, radiator in the bathroom was hot despite it being a scorching hot day, and we could not turn it off!
The big problem was in the evening, there was a club in the cellar with live bands and the doors/windows were left wide open as it was a very hot day, the noise from the band was unbelievable, we could feel the floor shake! This went on until after midnight so trying to get an early night was out of the question. Underneath our bedroom window was a patio which was used by all the smokers from the club and the smoke drifted into our room along with the noise and bad language from the drinkers.
Breakfast was ok, full English with toast, juice, coffee etc. But the dining room was a shambles, just 4 tables set and all the rest piled up with chairs at the other end. Another guest arrived for breakfast and when he sat down the chair collapsed!

“Okay for one night!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2010

Booked in for one night as attending show at the East of England Showground following day and this hotel was close-by. The owner was very polite and welcoming and our room (no. 1) was okay. Bedding was clean, nice clean towels and the bathroom was also clean but shower was hand held over the bath. TV remote did not work properly. The stairways and corridors badly need refurbishing and the restaurant - well, we were glad we didn't take up the offer of having a meal there. Breakfast was okay but again everything is tatty. Another downside is that the Cellar Bar has a lot of 'gigs', especially on a Friday and Saturday night so if you want an early night don't stay here!

“Shabby dirty out of date”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2009

Booked for a week for a Xmas break.
Wish we had chosen somewhere else 3 beds in room made the room very small.
Tatty bedding holey and stained.
Towels or sheets not changed the whole stay.
Breakfast chef Nick very rude as when we went for breakfast one morning we were told we could not sit at a certain table the other tables were all taken .Needless to say we told him where to put his breakfast and didnt bother the rest of the week even tho we had paid for it.
Loud music comming from the bar at night ,noisey guests banging doors and a leaking ceiling as the quest above flooded the shower water came thro onto our bed.

I would not stay here again it was awfull out of date smelly and needs a serious make over.

“home away from home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

Was staying in the hotel while working in Peterborough and was put up in a room for approximately 2 months. Initial impressions were very thought provoking and wondered if this was the best place available. But as the days progressed theplace grew on me and I started really enjoying being there. First to mention are the staff present. They are warm, friendly and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. Most prominent amongst them are the manager at the reception and the lady who serves breakfast every weekday. She always has a smile to greet you in the morning and helps you start your day with a smile on yours as well.
The hotel is placed very close to the hospital, town centre and railway station with easy access to other areas using the bus (3-4 mins walk from the queensgate bus station and town centre).
Although there were some negligible hiccups at times (like in all b/b across the country) the staff present did their best to put things in order.
The free wi-fi was great with good connectivity and speed.
Did not have any experiences worth complaining.
Would love to return to this place if ever need to go back to Peterborough for work.
Ideal home away from home.
