“Better than I had feared”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2007

I stayed over the night of 7/8 July following an engagement party just outside Cambridge. I could not get a place any closer ! When I arrived at reception there was a person seeking a room. Fortunately I had booked ahead. The man on reception was very friendly and booked me in as soon as he could. I ended up in a handicapped room on the ground floor as they were completely full.

The room was very spacious and the bathroom was well appointed. The bed was comfy and big. In the morning before I left I had a cup of coffee using the kit supplied. The coffee was fine but the milk was going off in the little pots !!

“NO AC, Bad Beds”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2007

Yes, the AC was off on May 24-25 (it was broken and needed last minute repair on a bank holiday). It is a clean facility attached to a rest area of sorts with food and supermarket facilities. But the one issue I had was a bed that felt no better than a box spring. I have heard of firm but this is ridiculous. Took cushions from the couch to sleep on.

“Very hot and could not sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2007

This is a reasonable quality hotel with clean environment and facilities with an excellent rate. However arriving here on a summer's day could put you in for a nasty sleeping experience - the air conditioning probably needs re-gassing as it could not lower the very stuffy room temperature even when on full all night. Plus the window opened just a couple of inches and not enough to generate any breeze to move the air out. The result was an incredibly hot night when the normal evening temperatures were only mild. I was really tempted to sleep in the large window sill area just to get cooler.

“Good for a travel inn style hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2007

Stayed here for 1 night only, found it very clean and well looked after. Seemed a cut above your usual travel lodge style inn. Room was a good size and the furniture in the room was in good condition...

Would avoid taking the B&B option as its at a service station, so there is a choice of Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, and a couple of other places to eat, the brekfast option just gives you a voucher for use at a place in the service station, but the cooked breakfast was awful. Just go to one of the others. Other than this the Sleep inn itself is just fine, for a short overnight stay.

“Okay hotel... but going downhill over time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2006

I have stayed at this hotel several times (with having family living in a village 2 miles down the road), both with my partner in a double room and also with our daughter in a 'family' room. We have taken advantage of a benefit of being a 'First Directory' customer and get to book the rooms at half price (£30 per room per night). Maybe thats why the rooms and the service and progressively getting worse.
The first couple of stays we have had here - in 2004 - we had bright cheery very spacious non smoking family rooms, with excellent showers. But the latest two resevations we have been placed in much smaller rooms, with furniture removed in order to fit in the temporary bed for our daughter. Worse still, the rooms had a funny smell, like they were used for smokers previously - the bedding smelt of it, the beds smelt of it. Just a stale and musty smell, and the airconditioning was noisy and ineffective (and indeed pumped more odours into the room). Whether this has anything to do with the fact the night staff stand at the end of the non smoking corridor and smoke is beyond me, but it has not been pleasant on either stay. The service is a bit haphazard. The first night we checked in in December we had to wait in reception for 10 minutes until the night receptionist (or whatever he is) came back from his break. Although he was very good the following night in getting extra pillows and balnkets - from the room next door.
As far as food goes - we normally eat with family at their house, or get a take out (as a treat). Breakfasting though we do take advantage of the service station facilities and eat at the french breakfast place. They do an excellent continental breakfast of croissant, french bread, jams, coffe and orange juice for £4, or a full breakfast for £7 and we have often spent an hour or more lingering over the papers.....
Overall, the hotel is great value for the money we pay, but the rooms, and the service is getting to such a low we are thinking of paying more and staying a little further away, closer to Peterborough, than stay here again.
