“Very pricey and terrible rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at the Grand Hotel for one night. €80.00 for a double room with no breakfast. The room was in desperate need of a repaint. The bath was stained and the shower was nothing more than a trickle!. A friend also stayed here on the same night, and for a single room with breakfast cost him €90.00, were still trying to work out the logic in that one. The staff were pleasant enough but the hotel desperately needs to be decorated. I wouldn't recommend this Hotel to anyone and will not be staying there again. Also, a bill next morning for 3 drinks was €19.00...very over priced!

“Excellent Bar Food”

We have stayed in the Grand but not for many years, so cannot comment on the hotel rooms.
This review is to provide information about Wynne's bar and restaurant.

The food is excellent and comes in very generous portions. Nothing too fancy, but you always find something tasty on the menu, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are invariably attentive and friendly.

“Good food but too pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

The Grand Hotel is the only hotel in Wicklow town. The food in the bar is good, the menu was revamped about 12 months ago, which to be honest, it needed to be. There is a good selection from soups to salads & steaks to stews, there is something for everyone. We popped in for a bite to eat recently & the food was good, we had the rib eye with fried & the sirloin with fries, both steaks were cooked perfectly, the onion rings were a little soggy & didn't really add much to the dish but the pepper sauce was fabulous. The cost was c€50 for the two of us with two drinks; which to be honest was a little expensive (I would expect these prices in Dublin ..not Wicklow), but as I said the beef was perfectly cooked & the staff were very friendly, so I am not really complaining. Good spot for lunch; but don't go if you are on a budget.

As part of a groupe from the north of Ireland, we had made our first visit to the Grand Hotel in Aug 11. at that time we spent 7 days and i found the staff very good, & even the manager was the same. i never was never so well treated in any hotel and the staff just made me feel at home. Sean

“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Where do I start, When we booked in we were given a terrible room and had to change. The new room was slightly better, however there were holes in the skirting boards the ceiling looked damp with paint peeling off and there was a smell of cooked chicken coming from the bathroom. We got no sleep whatsoever due to noise levels from drunk people shouting and singing. When we got home we found out not only had we been overcharged but had been given a receipt for a different customer. We contacted the Hotel and were told we would get a call back. After receiving no call back we rang a second time and we asked to talk to the manager we were told we would get a call back. No call back, we rang a third time and were told we would get the price difference refunded. Just glad we stayed only one night.
