“A hidden gem!”

We had some nice days in Wicklow. The spacious Seefin house we had was comfortable and just right for a family. As suggested by the friendly and very helpful gentlemen at reception we went to Glendalough and also did the cliff walk from Bray to Greystones. We even climbed ‘Great Sugar Loaf’, thanks to the free walking guide booklet we had been given on arrival. Kippure has fantastic large grounds, with forests, streams and fields full of sheep (and lambs!) and horses. There are trails for rambling everywhere. We would recommend this place to families with children who want to spend some quality time with their kids and who love nature. The only drawback I would see for some people is that the next tiny shop is 10 minutes drive away and it takes you about 15 minutes to a town with supermarkets and banks etc. But for this you get peace a real feeling of away-from-it-all. We didn’t mind and found everything easily accessible, Dublin is only 30 minutes away and the drive from the ferry port took us only 45 minutes.

“Great stay in Wicklow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

Enjoyed a fabulous 4 day break with friends in one of the 4-bedroom Seefin type houses. The views from the bay windows in the living area were fantastic, overlooking the valley and mountains, which remarkably are still snow capped. The chilly evenings were made really cosy with the wood burning stove being put to good use.
Even though the location is remote, access to Dublin City Centre was surprisingly easy and we were able to spend the day and also catch the Irish rugby game in one of the packed pubs. We also made our way to Glendalough and Powerscourt, again easy to get get to from Kippure.
We had a great stay and hope to be back again sometime.

Stayed here with our two children. Once you have paid and turned up you dont need to see any of the staff at the estate. the doors are left open with the key in the back and a note on the reception door told us where we were staying. If you turn up earlier this may be different. And when you leave you just do the same. Leave the door open with the key in, no checking out. the grounds of the estate were gorgeous and even tho it's 'remote' we found it just fine and it's in a perfect location to then go and visit Powercourt, Glendalough etc.
The houses were poor for the money. we had a 4 bed house (only one left) and it had a 14" portable tv, with no remote, and 4 channels. After a long day out and once the kids are in bed it would have been nice to watch a little something. A remote and DVD player would have made the world of difference. The curtains didnt match (in the same room) the paint was old and peeling. the cooker was 'dodgy'. Old and stained sofas. Poor showers. I expected more for the money i paid. Nice, but not recommendable.

“A wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2009

The house we satyed in was named "Athdown" and were delighted with the accomodation. The views were superb, particularly from the two large windows in the living room. The house was spacious, clean and well kept.

The scenery was spectacular, with fantastic walks around the area. The wildlife was a joy to watch, with wild deer and even a couple of seemingly wild donkeys roaming around!

It was very peaceful, and we had no problems with any of the other guests.

We did not have a lot of contact with the staff as there was no need, but they were helpful at the beginning and the end of our stay.

“Remote”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2008

Following a few Trip Advisor reviews and viewing their own website we decided to book a week out of season (May 2008) for 5 adults and two infants (both under 2) in one of the 4 bedroom self-catering apartments.

The standard of the property we stayed in was average - nothing special. It consisted of 3 bedrooms (one with ensuite) and bathroom on the ground floor and one bedroom on the first floor where the main lounge, dining and kitchen area was located in open plan format. The kitchen is not particularly well stocked with utensils, especially for a large family group, and it was difficult to obtain missing items from reception. Bin liners were also an issue as reported by another traveller on this site. Overall I would say the property was OK.

People should also be aware it is quite remote. If you really want to get away from it all this is a good place but if I was going to do the same I would prefer a cosier property. You need to be able to enjoy being cut off and I would advise stocking up with plenty of supplies. Otherwise everything is a car journey away.

For families with small children you should be aware that most days needed an hour in the car to get to the major attractions nearby e.g. The beach south of Wicklow, Glendalough, Powerscourt, etc. A couple of our group took the car to Dublin Zoo and jumped on the City sightseeing bus - a good cheap option to get into Dublin avoiding the traffic.
