“Great Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2007

I booked a weekend self-catering rental on the goireland.com website.

The recently- built, house slept 7 people in four bedrooms, with two bathrooms. Simply, but comfortably furnished and well equipped. Beautiful surroundings in the middle of Wicklow scenery, yet easy to find coming from either Blessington or Roundwood.

The Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

This is a wonderful place for families and a paradise for small children with babbling Liffey running a few yards away, exciting walks and trees to climb. You need a car to get anywhere, of course, but the estate is ideally located for seeing Wicklow. Some building work going on at the moment. Several more houses are being built, but they are in keeping with the landscape. I hope that the place does not get too big, though.

We will definitely go back.

“Kippure Estate - Self-Catering and B&B in Ireland's Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2006

We rented a self-catering four-bedroom home for a week in Mid-August. There were six adults. The Kippure Estate - oringally a hunting lodge - is located on 240 acres in Kildare, Blessington, County Wicklow on the edge of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It is a mixture of B&B rooms and 10 self-catering homes in two and four-bedroom schemes. We rented a four bedroom home. It was fully furnished and the living areas were divided between two floors with a great mix of bedding arrangements including two rooms with two twin beds, one room with a single twin bed and one room with a double bed. The first floor (upper level) has one bedroom and an great room layout that hosts the kitchen, dining area and living room area. Tremendous amount of windows providing great views of the estate and the Wicklow Mountains. The area is remote - it is about 15km to the main road (The N 81) so you will need a car. The staff was helpful. In addition to holiday homes and B&B rooms the Estate is home to many corporate team-building programs. The area is just beautiful. Several Hollywood blockbuster movies were shot in the area including Braveheart - and in fact the road the Estate is situated on (the R759) has been tagged "Braveheart Drive." You can pre-arrange meals in advance. If you have a self-catering home in the Village of Blessington there are two grocery markets (a SuperValue and a Dunnes) as well as a produce store, drug store, general store, butcher, and a few off-licenses (liquor stores) as well as a selection of pubs. A tad closer in Manor Kilbride there is a convenience store of sorts next to St. Brigids RC Church with limited hours. There are two must sees when visiting here (in addition to all the natural beauty and the sheep!): the first is Moonys Pub - it is located on the R759 as you travel from the N81 to the Estate. It is open afternoons and evenings and the owner (Mr Moony) lives on-site. A very interesting collection of locals and we had some great times in that room - after our second day they made us feel like we had lived in the area our entire lives - each night we would stop in for our nightcap after our daily travels and explorations of Ireland and they would ask us about our trip and view our collection of digital pictures. Very fun indeed! The other must do is to eat a a pub called the Blue Gardenia Pub - it is in Brittas, South County Dublin about 20km from Kippure on your way into Dublin on the N81. Great food (you can't go wrong with the Joint of the Day!) and a great staff!
