“Great staff - nice location - felt at home”

So this is why people like staying at B&Bs!

I packed a little too much travelling in for 1 day. Had this hotel booked in Waterford and we started the day in Dingle. I was a bit too agressive in what I wanted to get done. I called ahead to tell them we would be arriving around 20:00.

When we got there, after a hectic day of driving across Ireland, the hotel manager gave us the location of 4 restraunts that would be serving food late that were near buy and told us about where we could see live music that night. She was prepared and very informative. We couldn't ask for more after being on the road that day.

Spent the night eating a wonderful dinner near by and went to a pub for some traditional music a couple blocks away. Great way to enjoy Waterford.

Breaksfast was traditional and excellent. Staff was very freiendly. Room was homeley, but quite adequette. Would come here again.

“Just ok”

My mother and I stayed in a twin room on the 2nd floor in the beginning of September for 1 night. It reallly is ok for a nights stopover, but nothing special. Our room did overlook the street, which was kind of neat. Two big windows. A bit cold, and then hot, depending on whether or not the sun was shining. The main thing is that the bathroom needs some help. It looked as if it hadn't been well cleaned for over a year. The wallpaper was pealing off. Stained grout and things. It was the sort of place that would have been fine if you were staying at a friends house for a night, but for 100 euro it wasn't much. Also, the phone didn't seem to work correctly. At least I never figured it out. The staff is fine, but certainly nothing special. Breakfast was very good though.

“We Expected Something Special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2002

After reading the rave reviews on this site as well as the Karen Brown and Rick Steve guides, we expected Brown's Townhouse to be something special. It was not!

We arrived at 6:05 on a rainy, blustery October day, only to find the door locked and a note telling us to go one-half block down the street, to the Brown's residence, to get a key. A cold and wet welcome! On-street parking was free if you could find a space. We were told to wait until after 9 p.m. when people returning from town would open spaces.

Our accommodations were okay but crowded, with the bath wallpaper peeling from the wall. The bath's radiator valve would not open, resulting in the room being unacceptably cold. We asked that it be addressed the following morning, were promised that it would be, but returned in early evening to find that it still would not open. Two uncomfortable night and morning showers for my wife and me!

The food was plain and there was lots of it. After Mr. Brown showed us to our room, we never saw him again or his wife. Nor was Charlie the dog around, as if we cared.

The Brown's have marketed their property well but it does not live up at all to expectations.

“A Rare Find”

Brown's Town House is just the place you want to end up after a hard days touring. Located within walking distance of everything, Browns Bed and Breakfast offers impeccably clean rooms with old world charm and all modern conveniences one longs for after a week or two of Irish quaintness. No kidding. My wife and I slept like death in a bed in a room that looked like it had come out of the pages of a home decorating magazine. Morning arrived with plenty of hot water and a gluttonous breakfast which included salmon, gourmet coffee and home mixed cereal. Mr. Brown has traveled and worked around the world so there was plenty of interesting conversation to be had around the breakfast table. The cost was well within the guides parameters.
