This hotel is in an excellent location - right in the heart of Sligo town, just 5 minutes walk from the train & bus station, and right beside the shopping centres, pubs, resturants, etc. Check in went very smoothly - the hotel looked nice and clean, if a little old fashioned. Strange to be still given a room key instead of an electronic card! The room itself was average size, if a little awkwardly shaped, because of the alcoves, but was spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom. Had all the usual amenities - the only thing was, the TV was a tiny portable, and had very limited selection of channels. Basics like proper central heating need to be addressed too - the heating was old fashioned storage heating, and badly needs modernising, as, even with the heating on the room felt cold. Also its a shame theres no room service. A word of warning - the walls are very thin, and you can hear every sound from next door.
The food was average - the full Irish breakfast was perfectly ok, but the buffet had a poor selection. I had my evening meal there, and had 3 courses for 20 euros which was quite good. The food was just ok - it was more like plain, basic home cooking than anything you would expect in a resturant, and there was very little variety.
All in all for 65 euros B & B, it was a perfectly acceptable place, and as my tille says, you get what you pay for.
