Rooms are very clean and nice. Great food served at the bar and a nice breakfast. Would stay here again.

“The ONLY Place to stay in Monaghan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Back in Ireland for a wedding recently and was given the list of hotels in monaghan and checked them all out when we arrived knowing that Jan would be a fine time to be able to rock up for a room,
This was the only real option that ticked all the boxes and most espically when not travelling with kids. The room was well appointed, the hotel as central as you could want (and a very good loking exterior) , parking was easy and most importantly the staff on the whole were exceptionally accomidating and attentive and want above and beyond to deliver good and pleasant service (The one exception being the abrupt and kinda rude waitress at breakfast - remember its a SERVICE job !!)
But of all the hotels we checked out (well there are only a few and its not that big a town) this was the hands down winner and the impressive exterior was matched by the warmth of the service and hospitality.
Look no further and book the westernra....
Did i also mentioed value - it was very good value too

Room Tip: the higher the floor the less influenced by the bar/lounge area

“Nice Hotel - but watch what room you get!”

Myself and a group of friends stayed here last weekend. We have an annual get together at Christmas time and as one of us lives in Donegal and the others in DUblin, we try to meet half way.

The Westenra is very well situated right in the centre of monaghan town. When we arrived, it was dark and the streets and the hotel were all lit up with Christmas lights so it was very welcoming. We were a group of 5 sharing 3 rooms for the weekend.

The hotel is small but really lovely and the decorations were superb which gave a lovely atmosphere. We had a meal in the bar and the food is excellent. There was a band playing for the evening and they were very good.

We had rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. My friends got room 106 but hardly slept at all. Friday night wasn't too bad but on Saturday there was a function in the hotel and this room is right beside the upstairs function room. They said it was like being in the function all night and it went on until about 4am. On the 2nd floor, we could hear a distant hum so it wasn't too bad.

Overall I would highly rate this hotel but if returning, we would look for rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floors and away from the bar. Food is excellent both in the bar and the restaurant. The staff are friendly and the hotel was very clean.

“A Warm Friendly Family Run Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Room was great, massive comfy bed and was spotless. It is walk able from anywhere in town and the staff were very helpful with suggestions of places to go and directions on how to get there. The bar was very comfy and the Staff were friendly, The bar food menu was I must say, excellent. I can't remember what I had for a starter, but I had the Fillet Steak for mains and it was absolutely fantastic. I have stayed in other hotels in Monaghan and this is by far my favourite. Comfy, clean, friendly, well located and very helpful staff. I would recommend the Westenra Arms Hotel to anyone.
