“New year in Carlton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Our initial room was facing out the back of the hotel and was expensive for waht was a small room with no light. We upgraded to the clew bay suite which had a lovely view and bathroom and an extra room. The decor in the bathroom was not great, adn though there were candles no matches. The bedroom was decorated nicely and well equiped. The staff were really lovely. Car park awkward. Leisure area unsupervised. Dinner there was very tasty, breakfast only average. The lobby area somewhat odd.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your valuable feedback all of which will be used to further improve our overall guest offering.
Delighted that the team showed their usual warm welcome and care and that you enjoyed your dining experience in our fourth floor Bluewave restaurant.
I will certainly look into breakfast operation for the dates of your stay, to see were there any factors as to why our standard was not its usual high level offering.
We recently moved to all home baked goods, including our own breads and homemade jams and this coupled with our extensive breakfast menu offering (fresh fish of the day, liver, connemara smoked salmon) has been received very positively to-date.
That said, we treat all guest feedback with extreme importance and ensure it is communicated clearly to all of the team so we can take any necessary corrective action.
Hoping we see you back with us in the near future.

Warm regards,
Garrett McGuinness

“Fantastic food and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We (2adults1child) stayed here last month. We were due to stay for 2 nights but we had to cut our break short and return home after one night. This was due to personal reasons and we were very disappointed we could not stay the second night as planned.
I had read the reviews on here and had been apprehensive about what awaited us room wise but the room we got was lovely. I wouldn't say it was up to 4 star standard by any means but it was definitely not like ome of the reviewers here had experienced. Yes the room was cold upon arrival but we turned the radiator on and the room was perfect in under 2 minutes so no complaints there. I would imagine if the heating had been on pin arrival the room would have been way too hot and stifling.
Our view was out onto the car park but this honestly made no difference to us, we hadn't gone to Westport to sit looking out the window!!
The staff on reception were very friendly and efficient (if a little overworked working the desk and phones!)
We dined in the restaurant that night and where do I start? From the welcoming and friendly greeting from the bar man/waiter. Unfortunately is name escapes me but if more establishments had staff like this gentleman then customer service etc would be improved 100 fold. He was a young guy with dark hair if this narrows it down! I being a vegetarian in a fish restaurant could have been tricky but I just asked what they had on the menu for vegetarians and he gave me a number of choices and then piped into the kitchen, had a word with the chef and came out with even more options! Fantastic. The ood we had was beyond delicious nd that alone was worth the 2 hour drive to Westport.
We went to the pool the next morning, if I had to have me criticism it would b here.the pool old really do with being signposted! We walked up and down the same flight f stairs a few times before we realised you enter though the a. When we were leaving the pool we met mother couple doing the same thing!
All in all a really nice hotel, bedrooms could do with a bit of upgrading (having to put den the toilet set to flush was a Little annoying!) but reading the responses here that's in the pipeline.
Will definitely geek!

“Good weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

stayed a weekend in this hotel and it was really good. Staff at reception, bar and restaurant were all very friendly and helpful. We had an excellent room, TV, Small music centre, tea, coffee, robes, slippers etc. Very well cleaned too. Buffet breakfast had lots to offer and cooked breakfast good. Blue Wave restaurant does good food but still a bit expensive in the current climate. The hotel is a great base for touring the beautiful Mayo coastline and countryside, Croagh Patrick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croagh_Patrick and Achill Island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achill_Island We have stayed in this hotel a few times over the years and it's about a mile outside Wesport town centre on Clew Bay, which itself looks fantastic.

Room Tip: The view is all to the front as is the street

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel, and great to learn of your positive experience with us.
Westport and the region is indeed a beautiful area of the country with a wide range of attractions and activities. On your next visit I would strongly recommend a bike ride on the hugely popular Greenway, which boasts 44km of "off road" cycling, extending from Westport Town right out to Achill Island.
Thank you also for your constructive comments in relation to your dining experience. We try to maintain competitive price structures at all times, but due to offering "market fresh" items on our restaurant menu can give reason for commanding a higher cost price.
Once again, thank you for much appreciated feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,
Garrett McGuinness

“4* - No Way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

On the positive side this hotel has a lovely location with beautiful views and a nice reception area.

First let down was on our arrival to our bedroom, it was cold and on checking the heating it was turned off. The room was clean but very basic. Curtains were old and had the rings falling out of them, no iron board, antiquated TV with no remote control. You had to lower the lid of the toilet in order to flush it. The whole ambiance of the room was dated and tired looking.

Our package included an evening dinner – food was quite edible but nothing to write home about. Breakfast was fine, but, why oh why do hotels deep fry sausages and anything else they can get away with, a pet hate of mine.

I am not saying this hotel is a disaster because it is not but it certainly should not be rated as 4*. We booked this hotel through an offer and I wonder do offers carry inferior rooms!!

Dear Guest,

We are indeed fortunate to be located in a unique area on Westport Quay, with Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick acting as a magnificent back drop.
Naturally I am concerned that you arrived to a cold bedroom as it is one of our standard operating procedures to have heat on in all guest rooms prior to arrival. I can assure you that this has been addressed through relevant deparmental triaining.
While significant areas of the property have undergone renovation and refurbishment over the last 18 month, this will continue throughout 2012.
It is dissappointing to learn that your dining experience did not exceed your expectations, especially considering that we have allowed for options to upgrade to "a la carte" dishes on our "table d'hote" menu.
Thank you for valuable feedback, all of which will be used to further improve our guests experience with us and please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss further.

Yours sincerely,
Garrett McGuinness
