“Noisy,uncomfortable and basic.”

Booked for three nights and arrived early evening after long trip from UK by road and ferry. Put kettle on , sat on bed and then Etna erupted from neighbouring rooms and in corridor. Aggressive behaviour shouting and bawling from residents on same floor. To escape we went ti the attached pub where we ordered food and it appeared the same residents were in the bar lifting chairs above their heads and shouting without a care for others. The barman or staff failed to react and it continued. We returned back to the room for tranquility and on close inspection of the room found a bathroom floor tile cracked which was sharp under foot. The bed a kingsize ( which was 2 single beds zipped together) with a double duvet covering it ???? Why
But the two beds were slightly different heights and uncomfortable to sleep on.
The noise continued when the residents returned from the pub and then early in the morning banging in the doors and then outside hooting of vehicle horns.
That morning we curtailed our stay and explained to Malik on reception about the noise. He stated it was builders staying in the hotel which was a weekly occurrence. We refused to stay another night and moved on. A phone call was received from the hotel within 30 minutes advising a refund for the 2 non stayed nights would be issued ( still awaiting that)
Location isn't great and this parking is at a minimum although there is a partially lit car park at rear which Police were seen regularly attending. Worried about car all night.

Dear Sir/Madame,
I have just returned from annual leave and I am horrified to read your review. First of all my sincere apologies for your dreadful events that hapened during your stay.It is unusual to have guests being aggressive and shouting in their rooms, and if we are notified at reception we deal with the matter immediately. I am currently investigating this serious matter as the safety and comfort of our guests is paramount.
In relation to the duvet our delivery had not arrived that day as his van had broken down. I have since rectified that this will not happen again. All of our beds are the same size, but I will check this and rectify this also.
I can assure you that this not a weekly occurence . I will organise the refund.
We have a secure underground car park at the hotel.
In conclusion i wish to sincerely apologise to you and Ethna as we pride ourselves on the level of comfort and service we provide our customers.
Could you forward me your phone number and address so that I can organise the refund ?

Kind Regards

Niall Dalton

“Average hotel in average area - not that close to city centre”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Stayed there whilst visiting family recently with a view that it would be nice and central for walking into town in the evening but unfortunately it is not that central and is not in the nicest area either so we ended up driving in and having dinner and then heading back out.

The bar doesn't open late, even though we were residents and the night staff were unfriendly, even rude. I purchase a chocolate bar from a vending machine and the chocolate was hot and completely melted since the machine wasn't working - when I spoke to the night reception, I was first told that would put it in the fridge (although it was completely melted) and after arguing over receiving a refund, the man finally agreed.

Breakfast - advertised everywhere was a made-to-order hot breakfast and pastries and cereals. The breakfast was a selection of stewed buffet meat and vegetables. There were no pastries; the bread was stale and the cereal average.

I think this hotel is more 1/2 star then 3 star and I wish we’d stayed somewhere else.

“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

I read the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking and only went ahead with it when I realised the unfavourable reviews were from a while ago.
There is secure underground car-parking and plenty of it. The reception is easily accessible from there, with the rooms, again, close by. The rooms themselves would be be fine for a four-star never to mind a three. There is not much outside noise intrusion and the curtain does a good job of keeping out the morning light. The bed is fine, maybe slightly lumpy, and the bathroom is dead-on barring some chipped enamel in the bath. Clean and well-lit. The water is hot enough that you have to take responsibility for your own well-being.
The restaurant and the bar are far enough away in the building that it is a bit of a trek, downstairs and back up again, but at least there are no bedrooms over the social areas. The food is excellent and the staff are more than helpful. The bar, too, has a really good atmosphere.

I usually try and stay in Punches hotel when in Limerick, It is perfect and very clean, I actually can't find any faults with it apart from the ultra modern reception but thats just personal taste

“Punch's Hotel Limerick”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

Modern hotel built alongside an historic family pub, about 2 kilometers south west of the city centre. The hotel is in an area where there are many derelict sites, a side effect of the late lamented boom. Inside the lobby is bright and modern as are the corridors and public areas, the room was clean as was the bathroom. In the room a number of the small side lights and ceiling spots didnt work, a little maintenance would not go amiss. The staff were helpful and friendly but run off their feet, one person appeared at reception, then in the corridor dealing with a room complaint and then in the bar serving food and drink. Seafood chowder in the bar was good but the promised home made bread with it was awful. The pool was also out of commission. The room rate was very reasonable and is an alternative to a traditional bed and breakfast. There is plenty of free underground car parking and the hotel is also on a bus route.
