“Great location, Wonderful Hostess, Super Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

Frankly, I was a little concerned about Glen Eagles because of the other reviews ("showing signs of wear," "well worn"), but after we met Helen and saw the rooms, I stopped worrying. The location is the closest to downtown Limerick that we could find (10 min walk to King John's Castle and downtown). Her sister met us when we arrived and was very helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy and very comfortable. The place was also quiet, which was a little surprising given the proximity to downtown. Helen made a great breakfast and even offered to do some laundry for us since we arrived on a Sunday and would have had to forego clean clothes for a day if she had not. We took the bus to Limerick (train station is adjacent) and it was only a ten euro cap ride and five minutes from there to Glen Eagles. Glen Eagles is also less than a ten euro cab ride to a local car rental (Irish National) establishment. We only stayed one night although we probably could have stayed two since we did not get past Bunratty Castle and Folk Park the next day and Glen Eagles is less than 20 minutes away (we ended up staying in Ennis). Louise is a wonderful hostess, likes to meet people and is easy to talk to. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay again.

“Top location but showing signs of wear”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2009

My wife & I stayed for one night (Sunday) in Limerick so I booked this B&B for its location. I thought that Sunday would be hard to find decent restaurants open so close to the city centre would be beneficial. The house itself isn't pretty from the outside and the inside needs a makeover. Our bathroom had a bad mould problem on the ceiling and it smelled like it. The bed was on the hard side but that didn't seem to worry me. Helen, the hostess, was very welcoming. She does everything in the house & she's a pretty good cook too. Her suggestions for Sunday night eating and drinks were spot on. Recommended for its great location and cheap rates.

“Good B&B, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2009

It is difficult to give a thorough review of this B&B because the owner was away on holiday in Spain when we stayed here one night. In her absence she had a neighbor, Gino, look after my fiancé and me. Gino gave us a very friendly welcome to Limerick and wanted to hear about our plans in the area. We had to leave early the next morning for our next destination so we weren’t able to enjoy a sit down breakfast, but Gino left us a lovely and filling packed lunch to take with us in the morning, complete with a little note wishing us an enjoyable rest of our time in Ireland! We were actually the only guests in the whole house for our one night stay, so we were given a large room with a double bed and twin, even though it was just the two of us! The bathroom was also large and very clean, though the shower took some time to figure out. The room’s furnishings were plain, but well kept. And the mattress seemed pretty thin and old, but we both slept well anyway.

We also appreciated the location very much. We were traveling by public transportation and thought we wanted something maybe a little closer to the bus and train station, but after arriving in Limerick we realized that it’s a good thing Glen Eagles isn’t closer because the area around the station seems rundown and dirty. Glen Eagles is just across the bridge over the River Shannon in a cozy residential neighborhood. And this was only a 5-10 minute walk from the historic center of Limerick. I’m pretty confident we would stay here again if we visited Limerick again.

“Well Worn B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2009

The owner was not there when we stayed (away for personal reasons) so I can't comment on the service. Location was great, a short walk across the bridge into town. Rooms were fine but were a little rough around the edges/well used. The bed for example was not exactly cushy (I slept fine that said) anymore. Breakfast was pretty decent. While not 5 stars by any means, if I were in Limerick I might stay there again as it was much cheaper than most of the alternatives. I would recommend it, but not without caveats.

“Friendly at breakfast... not so great sometimes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2009

We got there a little late and ended up finding out that she had given one of our rooms away. It worked out all right though, because our room ended up having 4 beds. She was ok nice and ended up recommeding a decent resturant for us to eat at. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom had a cool shower and plenty of shelves. Basically the only downside was the stinky sheets and towels and giving away our room. It was pretty close to the "downtown" and was about a 5 minute walking distance. She ended up being an informed and pretty friendly hostess.
