My partner and I stayed here for 4 days in August 2011 while on a Ireland West-coast trip, our first trip to this lovely country.

We arrived here after a long flight, and were very impressed by the welcoming atmosphere we encountered. The Landlady had just made some wonderful fresh-baked apple tart and served us this with a nice cup of tea. It really helped us relax after the voyage there.

The next couple of days were spent visiting King John's Castle and St.Mary's Cathedral in Limerick City (both of which are very impressive), and Bunratty Castle in nearby Co. Clare. There are more castles, towers, and old churches here than you can imagine. History is visible all around you!

Every morning we had an excellent breakfast from the Landlady and then headed off on our adventures. The Landlady give us great advice on which restaurants to go to, pubs to see live Irish Traditional music at, etc. Since we had never being to Ireland before, we were most grateful for her guidance and suggestions, and her local knowledge was really spot-on.

Overall, we loved this place and we are planning a return trip next year with some friends. I would recommend this B&B.

Luckily we only stayed here one night as we mistakenly thought Limerick was a nice place to visit. I can only say it seemed a good idea at the time!
Our first impressions of the owner were not good. We said we'd visited the Rock of Cashel that day which we really enjoyed, but she seemed surprised we'd gone, & said she'd find it boring, twice! I thought this was a bit rude. Our room was clean, but very small & needed updating. When we went to sit down at breakfast the next day at a large table, her first words were "don't sit there"! This immediately made us feel ill at ease, like we were not welcome in her home. Although she'd taken the order for breakfast the night before, she got both our orders wrong, but as she'd been so sharp we couldn't be bothered to complain. There was no fruit on offer, so we were surprised to see another guest was given a large plate of it. We thought we only had to order cooked stuff.
I would not stay here again, or recommend anyone else to. We saw none of the friendliness & hospitality that we received at all the other b&bs we stayed in Ireland.

We have another experience with this hotel. In July, me and my friend were hitchhiking from Gallway to south and by coincidence we got stuck near Limerick. We were just going on the street and trying to find some place under the sky, where we could lay in our sleeping bags, when suddenly a car with some lady stopped near us and she asked, if we´re looking for some B&B. We said, that we have no money (we´re street musicians, living from what we earn through the day). And to our surprise, she invited us to this lovely hotel and said, we can build a tent in her garden for free. When she saw, that we have no tent, she went inside and prepared two beds for us, and she still didn´t want any money! In the morning, we could use hotel bathroom and she made us excellent pancakes. Everything for free. Finally she took us by her car to good spot for hitchhiking. So if you hesitate about standing in this hotel, we recommend you to try it - good people are runing it and this post is our little "thanks" for their kindness and hospitality, and we are the example, that they aren´t doing this just for money. (Sorry for possible mistakes, I´m not from English spoken country).

We are a couple and we spent one night here. The hotel is very cosy and mrs Evelyn the innkeeper has accomodated us in a special room designed for newlyweds (even though we are not). We appreciated it very much.
Anyway what turned out to be actually astonishing and absolutely outside the norm was how mrs Evelyn assisted us in a problem we had with a car tyre.
She brought us to the tyre centre and then led us to the market square to buy an article we needed in order to solve that problem. She spent more than a hour for us.
Maybe the location, although nice, is not the best we've ever seen, but if you want to meet a very special person don't miss Avondoyle Country Home
