"Excellent" means in its class of 3-stars, of course. I got this at a 40 euro B&B for two rate, unbeatable, from Travelrepublic.ie, in spite of the hotel's website claim that you can't get lower prices (than 49+breakfast) anywhere.
We needed to know the real phone number for the hotel (see war story below) to call for directions and to call to get out of the public car park (6.70 extra next morning) which serves as the hotel car park. (The trick is to press and hold the door release button, not simply press once). The duty manager came across and let us out, the jolly receptionist put us in a good humour, we had a good nights sleep on the fifth floor away from traffic noise and with a good view over the Shannon, and we got a good breakfast from a motherly waitress who met our requests with eagerness: porridge (not on display) with honey, and the egg well done. What's not to like?
The only thing visitors might not like is the charge for internet use: 5 euro for 1 hour, 10 euro for a day.
This was a turnaround in my perception of the hotel staff because I had earlier in the day called the number on the web site (061 207000) only to get an automated response asking me to enter a room number. This gave a momentary panic as I thought the price from Travelrepublic (aka LateRooms.com) was too good and the hotel was in fact closed. I got the real number (061 207099) from the central reservations service of Jury's Inns. When I reported this problem to the hotel the receptionist simply repeated that the 207000 number was the correct one and I got annoyed when she did not seem to comprehend that I was reporting a problem with that number and was not really listening to me. By the time we got there, I had got over that; and by the next morning our experience was much more positive. It's a service business.
